This week saw BMGS host the HICES Primary School Cross Country Carnival. Whilst this was a Junior School event I would like to thank the students from Year 9 PASS who assisted on the day. I received a number of positive comments from the HICES parents and staff regarding how helpful our students were. It is always good to hear what great students we have at BMGS.

Thank you also goes to the parents who helped with recording and marshalling. Without your assistance the Carnival would not have run so smoothly.

Congratulations

On Wednesday this week, BMGS competed at the ISA Cross Country carnival. The most successful team was the Intermediate Boys who placed 4th on the day. In addition, we had a number of students who qualified to compete at the NSWCIS Cross Country Carnival to be held at Eastern Creek Raceway on 10th June.

Athletics Carnival

The next event on our calendar is the Senior School Athletics Carnival. This is to be held on Friday, 4th June. All students are encouraged to compete in as many events as possible on the day.

This year the P & F will be running a BBQ as well as selling a variety of other items. All students are asked to support the P and F as the funds raised go directly back into the purchase of major items for the school community.

If any parents are available to help on the day, could you please email me and I will add you to the roster.

Concussion

It is very important that any player who receives a concussion during sport follows the School’s procedures for return to school and sport. The ISA Return to Sport Card must be completed, with staged checks by your doctor. This must then be returned to the School for the player to be cleared to continue playing.

Most importantly, any person who receives a concussion should not use technology for the first 48 hours following the concussion. If you have any further questions regarding this please contact me.

Netball

BMGS Firsts were defeated by Oxley, 58-42

The girls had a tough game against Oxley this week. It was tight across the four quarters but unfortunately we ran out of steam towards the end of the match. Both the defensive and attacking ends had to work hard against very strong players, and the midcourt did well to apply defensive pressure to stop Oxley. You should be proud of your efforts this week.

BMGS Opens defeated St. Andrew's Cathedral School, 37-11

It was another good win this week against St Andrews. Play was a little scrappy at the start, however, we managed to pull it together midway through the first quarter and take a handy lead into the break. We continued to build on this lead all game, working well in defence all the way down the court forcing turnovers. We are still bunched in attack so we we will continue to work on this at training. There were also many displays of good sportsmanship by those girls who came off the court.

BMGS Intermediates were defeated by Barker College, 37-14

Unfortunately Viki was away unwell this week, however, we extend a big thank you to Mrs Kim Fraser for stepping in as coach. Although it was a tough game, the girls deserve to be commended for never giving up and continuing to encourage each other with every play. Bella was outstanding in defence, making it difficult for the Barker shooters to get into a good position, whilst pulling off intercept after intercept. Sophie was confident in our shooting circle and Josie had a great game in the mid court, always working hard to be an option. Well done, girls, for never giving up!

BMGS Juniors defeated Oxley College, 31-27

Walking away with our first win of the season, anyone who didn’t know better would have thought we won the grand final! The energy and excitement was high and it was a pure joy to see the big smiles on all of the girls’ faces. Every player made their mark on the court and used the skills they had learnt in training to show huge improvement from previous weeks. Well done, Juniors, from your very proud coaches!

Girls' Football

BMGS Junior A were defeated by Redlands, 9-1

This was a tough match for our Junior A team against Redlands. Despite the girls' best efforts. working tirelessly in defence and trying to break Redlands defensive line when we counter-attacked, Redland’s first touches, set plays and intensity were considerably impressive. Unfortunately. we also played one player down for most of the game, as Lilah Baker (one of our impact players) injured her ankle in a tackle in the early stages of second half. Matilda Horne is to be commended on scoring a fantastic long range goal against Redlands – a deserving goal, considering how hard our midfield were playing to regain possession throughout the game. During this game I was really impressed with the consistent perseverance shown by the Junior A team and their ‘never give up’ attitude, right up until the full time whistle. We wish Lilah Baker a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the Football field with the rest of the team soon.

BMGS Open C defeated St. Paul's Grammar School, 4-0

This week Open Cs had one of our best games of the season to date! Thanks to Ashley and Indy who helped us on the weekend after their own game. We learned a lot during this game and had lots of fun as we were playing. Well done to Neave and Darcy who scored two goals, both of which were amazing, and well done Amelie who scored two fabulous goals from near the corners. As the game progressed we had more options to score but just weren’t able to get it in the net. Thanks again to our coach, Emma, our parents and teachers. Good job, girls.

BMGS First XI were defeated by Redlands, 6-2

This week the First XI came up against a closely matched Redlands team in one of our most important games of the season. Having no subs meant that we all needed to play a full game in hot conditions. In our first half we played extremely defensively, trying our best to stop any opportunities at goal, but unfortunately ended the half with a 3-0 score difference. We came back in the second half, focusing on improving our passes and positive communication, with an aim of playing more offensively. This allowed us to score two quick goals through Sophie and Indigo, with more opportunities provided for us to score. Unfortunately the end result was 6-2, which did not reflect our efforts and overall potential. We will be reflecting on our game to improve further, and hopefully come back with a win next time we face Redlands, in two weeks’ time. Thank you especially to Sophie for stepping up this week and playing an amazing game. We really appreciated the energy and skill you brought to our team.

BMGS Junior ! were defeated by Oxley College, 1-0

On the weekend our team had a very tight game against Oxley College and the game was was a huge improvement from our last game against Oxley. We held our own on the field, and earned several attacking short corners against our opposition. Unfortunately, we couldn't keep Oxley from scoring in the last ten minutes of play; one of their short corner's was successful. Although we came away with a loss, this was a great team effort and showed our efforts in practice are starting to pay off.

BMGS First XI defeated Oakhill College, 6-0

For our fourth round, our Firsts team won a score of 6-0 against Oakhill, continuing our undefeated season! We were able to take control right from the beginning of the game, keeping the ball inside the opponents’ half and managing to reach a score of 3-0. During the second half, the girls continued to maintain their intensity, as well as sustaining stronger positioning on the field which we discussed in our half time break, which resulted in three more goals. The progression of our skills in training is paying off in the games! Well done to our goalkeeper Eve, who managed to kick out all goal attempts, keeping us in the lead. Its been a great season so far and are hoping to see more wins. Well played!

Boys' Football

BMGS U14s were defeated by Redfields, 5-0

We all arrived bright and early at 7:30 for an 8:00am game. The grounds where covered with frost and our hands were cold. The game started with Eric in goals and Charley kicking off and, whilst we had some great runs up the pitch, nothing went in the goal. For the second half of the match Lewis was in goals. Eric surprised us all with his dribbling skills, which lead us to take a few shots. We unfortunately came away with a 5-0 loss, but we all had fun.

BMGS U15s defeated St. Paul’s Grammar, 6-4

The U15s started on shaky footing, with team Keeper, Callum Knussen, out ill for the game. Thank you to Ben Delaney and Richard Cunningham for stepping up to fill the goalkeeper’s boots for the match. The 15s fought hard, keeping the opposition at bay for most of the first half. With some lightning breakaway moves through the St. Paul’s defense, BMGS were able to score four goals. Special mention must be made of Man of the Match, Flynn Nicholls, whose impressive footwork led to a hat-trick. The second half of the match was spent trying to keep out the intensifying attack from St. Paul’s. Unfortunately, we conceded a number of goals, however, we were able to hold on to the win, scoring twice more and finishing the game with another success under our belts.

BMGS 2nd XI drew with St. Paul’s Grammar, 2-2

The 2nd XI's game was a tightly contested match. St Paul's proved to be a formidable opposition, but we managed to take the lead quite early, with a goal from Ras Darwin. Then, in all of three minutes of first-half game time, super sub Vaughan Dugdale managed to find the back of the net, maintaining his excellent ‘goals scored to minutes played’ ratio. St Paul's struggled to fight back in the first half, and we were dominant in possession. In the second half, though, the momentum was flipped. the St Paul's squad of fifteen meant that they were able to bring on plenty of re-energised substitutes on to challenge our tiring team, and they ended up nabbing two goals in the second half to bring the score to 2-2, which ultimately was an accurate result, considering how closely both teams were matched. Thanks to Tien Attwater to filling in, and congratulations to Angus Herron who has been inaugurated as a member of the Seconds.

BMGS 1st XI defeated St. Paul’s Grammar, 3-0

The 1st XI put in a strong performance against St. Paul's. Confident and optimistic, a strong first half performance featured excellent passing from both sides, with few scoring opportunities presenting themselves to both teams, and neither side able to convert these opportunities into goals. Fortunately, Max Anicic ended the goal drought halfway into the second half with an excellent first-time shot. Following this, BMGS piled on the pressure, keeping the ball in St. Paul’s half of the field for the majority of remaining time. A beautiful curling free-kick, from Oliver Roberson, added to the score, with Ollie adding another excellent header from a corner. Overall, a dominant performance from BMGS ended the game 3-0. We seek to bring this winning momentum into our games in the following weeks.
