Write a Book in a Day 2020
During September, several Year 9 and 10 students participated in the ‘Write a Book in a Day’ competition as part of the Kids Cancer Project. We were split into teams of ten and undertook the difficult task of writing and illustrating a short novel in one day. Each team was given a set of parameters for our stories which we had to follow in order to complete the task. We had to learn to work as a team, as well as inspire and encourage each other as this was key to completing our story.
Prior to the actual day, all teams attended a workshop to assist us in the writing of our stories. This workshop was hosted by Rob Johnson (’08), an actor as well as a published author. Rob spoke to us about collaborating as a team and gave us many useful tips and advice when it comes to writing.
Overall, we all enjoyed the day and are extremely grateful for the experience. Although writing a book in a day is a challenging task, we would highly recommend the experience. In addition, we contributed over $1000 in donations for children in hospital with cancer.
The stories we wrote will soon be available to read in the McGlade Library.
