Year 9 and 10 dance students are currently rehearsing items to be filmed and submitted for inclusion in the ‘In the Spotlight Virtual Dance Festival’ which will occur at the end of the year in place of the annual live event held at the Seymour Centre. Our students have really missed the opportunity to perform in a professional setting this year but ‘cross fingers’, the festival will resume as normal next year.
With COVID disruptions and the impossibility of live audiences, the ever-flexible Drama students at CGHS have explored other ways of showcasing their considerable talents. In our Y7, Y8 and Y9 lunchtime Drama ensembles, students have been exploring the process of film-making - developing a concept, scripting, storyboarding, filming and editing the films themselves. Students have been learning how different camera shots and angles can convey their ideas, and learning about acting for film, and how this is different from acting for stage. While they are all dying to feel the excitement of a live audience again, film-making has certainly captured their imaginations.
