Term 3

Physical Education

We have finally made it back to learning at school and I couldn't be more thrilled!

I have been blown away by the effort that students have applied across our Remote Learning period, not to mention the huge amount of support families have shown to their children and to the school. For that, we all want to give a massive thank you! There is no way we would have been able to do any of this without you.

Last week I saw some absolutely amazing fitness challenge results from the Senior students, while the Junior students chose from a choice board where they didn't shy away from some of the more challenging tasks on offer.

This week we will be starting Term 4's cricket unit for the senior students, focusing on a variety of mini games that will build those fundamental skills.

The Junior school will start out revisiting some of the bouncing and basketball based skills that we looked at during Remote Learning. This will solidify some of those concepts and build on any learning that has been made at home.

Pupil of the Week

Senior: Juliet O'B (5/6SB)

Juliet, I was absolutely blown away by your effort with our fitness challenge. You not only committed to completing each of your 5 exercises every day, but topped it off with a "Fitness Friday" where you completed huge numbers of almost 20 different exercises. I'm so proud of your determination!

Junior: Jackson M (1/2H)

Jackson, you have demonstrated so many great qualities through your PE work throughout Remote Learning. This week your sense of humour and humility really shone through, showing that you have the ability to laugh at yourself and not take things too seriously while still putting in your best effort. Keep up the amazing effort!

Visual Arts

Whilst one could have presumed a slow start to Term 4, this was not to be. First week back showed our students across all year levels being very productive and creative. The Shoe theme produced many fascinating creative outcomes and a variety of media were used resourcefully and cleverly.

Regarding our approach for the coming term: The department’s directive is to focus on literacy and numeracy. This will mean that our first artistic endeavours this term will incorporate other Key Learning Areas as we integrate cross curricular foci in our art educational outcomes.  We will focus on construction using both physics and mathematics as well as social studies in assessing client needs as we research and embark on our playground designs. Students will use number skills to work towards a budget in their constructions, and engineering skills in creating the dimensional forms that have structural integrity and functionality.

This term, Junior students will use their literacy skills in responding creatively to the story of the ‘The Day the Crayons came Home’ by Oliver Jeffers and Drew Daywalt. Students will create postcards, stamps and messages. We will focus on Australian Identity (what makes Australia unique) in the design of our stamps and research places of cultural significance in creating our postcards.

In Week 1 several students exceeded expectations and went the extra mile in documenting their creative endeavours using multimedia, video and sound editing techniques to showcase their work. Specifically Lavinia in 5/6 SB created a sensational time lapse video of her boot drawing. Sukriti 5/6 W created a wonderful voice annotated video of her clay shoe creation. Samanvi in 3/4 K created 'the shoe that can change your life' and a most delightful instructional video of how she derived at it - displaying her trademark light touch, humour and tremendous zest for learning.

Pupil of the Week

Senior: Emily A (3/4D)

For outstanding creativity and commitment in the execution of her shoe design. Emily, you displayed an appreciation of beauty, a love for learning, zest and perseverance in your shoe designs. You presented your work in a way that showed pride in having achieved a personal best. Sensational effort! Proud of you.

Junior: Zsofia C (1/2O)

For your very skilfully executed drawing of 'The Cat in a Hat'. Zsofia, you displayed great patience and perseverance. The drawing skill you display goes beyond the expected level of your age group. Very impressive.  Well done!

Performing Arts

As we come to the end of remote learning we look forward to heading back to school next week, and seeing all the students smiling faces.  We have enjoyed watching all the videos and work the students have created from home and are truely in awe of what they have achieved.  From cup music to class plays and everything in between. we have seen an amazing array of creative expression and learning.   It has been an opportunity to connect with students individually and work with them as we navigated the digital terrain together; learning and making improvements along the way.

I would like to thank all the parents who danced, made cameo appearances, created music and more in the support of Performing Arts education for your children.   We hope the students enjoyed their learning and we can't wait to continue their journey within the arts as we head back to the music room next week.

Pupil of the Week

Senior: Cooper W (3/4M)

For outstanding acting ability and commitment to the role he was performing. His use of both physical movement and facial expression were superb and brought his character to life.

Junior: Elijah B (1/2BR)

For an inventive and entertaining composition. You created and performed a catchy rhythm that maintained a steady beat. Thank you for notating your song perfectly too. Elijah, you have expressed your creativity and love for learning in this activity, and I am proud of your efforts. Well done!

Indonesian

Selamat siang, semuanya!

So many excited voices and faces this week - it is so exciting to be back and to be able to see each other this week!

I thoroughly enjoyed everyone’s work in our final week of remote learning. Our 5/6 students took a dive into celebrations, and began researching and creating engaging presentations they will share to their peers. 3/4 students learnt a boppy song about travelling to the beach and practised their listening skills.

In 1/2, students celebrated one of the best side effects of cuaca or weather, and made stunning pelangi - rainbows! Finally, Foundation celebrated their own birthdays in preparation to learn about birthday traditions in Indonesia this week! I’m excited to see everyone’s faces this week!

One more truly enormous terima kasih to all parents for their support and encouragement over remote learning. I've loved hearing you learning Indonesian yourself and showing your children that we can all be life-long learners!

Sampai nanti!

Pupil of the Week

Senior: Griffin B (5/6W)

For beginning a wonderful creation of a hand-drawn animation describing Ramadan. Your presentation is already engaging and informative, and I know I speak for your peers and myself when I say we're all looking forward to seeing the final product. Hebat, Griffin!

Junior: Ben S (FG)

For creating a wonderful birthday poster about your birthday! You were able to write your birthday using the Indonesian word Juni, and worked hard to sing along to Panjang Umurnya, the Indonesian birthday song. Bagus sekali, Ben!
