Selamat siang!

Wow! We can’t believe that we are back at school this week! Thanks, everyone for all of your hard work and support to get us through the last remote learning period, we look forward to an action-packed week of on-site learning!

Last week in Maths, students spent some time using their knowledge of fractions, decimals and number lines in a mini-project to design a highway! It was awesome to see all of the different highway exits that students included. There was also a focus on scaled number lines so that students could convert distance to fractions, and percentages. This week in maths we will be continuing to explore fractions and we will be looking at adding and subtracting fractions. We are excited to be able to use hands-on materials to help model some of these processes in the classroom.

In English sessions, the students spent some time practising taking on different reading roles, such as the Predictor, the Summariser and the Questioner whilst listening to the class text. We also spent some time recording notes, as note-taking is a vital skill outside of school! A highlight was the video about Sloths! Next week we will continue to explore the different roles in reading and spend some time looking at how these skills are all essential for ‘Real Reading’. In Writing, we spent some time creating SMART goals for term four! It was impressive to see how far students have come when creating their own personalised goals using the SMART strategy since term one.

Next week we can’t wait to spend some time developing our design and engineering skills in Guided Inquiry! Students will have the opportunity throughout the term to design and construct a balloon-powered car! We look forward to seeing all of their designs and finished projects throughout the term. This project will incorporate many STEM skills with a large focus on physics.

If you have any questions or concerns about the transition back to onsite learning please get in contact with your classroom teacher via Sentral or phone.
