Principal's Report

 Parents and Carers

If you subscribe to the school Facebook page you may have seen a short video of some Concord School staff displaying some sensational dance moves that would have been produced at this week’s Year 11 Presentation Ball if it had proceeded. Unfortunately, as is the case with many school events across Victoria, this very special event was postponed. We certainly hope it can proceed next year for both our 2021 year 11 and 12 students.

With the number of COVID-19 cases currently decreasing across Victoria, it is likely that we will have a return to on-site learning in term 4. We will wait to hear what the Premier announces on Sunday with interest. We have been very impressed with the work produced by the majority of our students who have been engaged in remote learning both at home and at school. Once again, we understand that for many of our students it is challenging to engage in remote learning and we reiterate that it is important to maintain well-being as well as academic growth. If you require any modifications to the remote learning program to suit the needs of your child, please contact your child’s teacher or team leader. Concord School is here to support you.

Virtual Tours

As you know, with the COVID-19 restrictions, we have not been able to have visitors to our school. This has included prospective parents who would normally visit our school to decide if they would like to enrol their child. As a result, our talented Discovery Centre team of Ashley and Nikki have created Virtual Tours for both the Watsonia and Bundoora Campuses. Please check these out through the home page of our school website http://www.concordsch.vic.edu.au/

Staffing News

Our Acting Assistant Principal (Teaching and Learning), Sam Birrell, has been provisionally appointed to the Assistant Principal position at Greenvale North-West Primary School, which will be opening in 2021. This is a supported inclusion school, which will benefit from Sam’s experience in both special and mainstream settings. Sam has been at Concord School since 2017 and we will miss her considerable knowledge and leadership experience.

Many of you will know Carmel Hunter who has been at Concord School for over 20 years. She has worked in many roles across the administration team but in recent years has been communicating with families concerning the bus transport. Carmel has advised that she will not be returning to Concord School and will be retiring later this year. We are extremely grateful for Carmel’s service to our school.

Curriculum Day Date

The school had a Curriculum Day (Pupil-Free) planned in June, which did not proceed due to the restrictions at the time. I am advising that School Council has approved for this Curriculum Day to occur on Wednesday, 9th December. This will provide an opportunity for our 2021 teaching teams to plan for next year.

Principal Award - Matin Pavir

Matin has been a very hard worker during remote learning 2.0.  He has attended every WebEx session, making sure that he is listening and then joining in or answering questions.

In small teaching groups he has worked hard to improve his writing and reading as well as telling the time in math.  He even made his own clock to help him practice telling the time.  He always has a big smile on his face when on WebEx.  He loves cooking as well, making great pizzas.

Keep up the great work Matin and well done!
