St. Augustine's School Prayer

Our Father in Heaven,

Look over and bless St. Augustine’s while we are working and playing.

Help us to respect and care for each other as you taught us to.

Give us the opportunity to do our best for you each day.

We look forward to being able to share our lives with our friends and families.

Keep us safe and give us the courage to be

people who want to know you more.

Amen.

I invite all families to pray this prayer at home, maybe one morning each week.

Prayer of the Week

Dear God,

Thank you for all the fathers and father-figures in this world and for the many ways you use them to lovingly guide others to Your heart.

We ask that you would bless them and give them great joy and peace.

May they see You and know You in new ways.

Show them how much you love them and care about them.

Guide their steps, use their hands, and make them a blessing to others as you continue to fulfill your special purpose for their lives.

Amen.

Scripture of the Week

This week there are a number of scripture verses about fathers (parents) culminating with the final one, the beautiful story of the Prodigal Son, also known as The Forgiving Father.

Proverbs 4:1-4

‍“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. Then he taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.”

Proverbs 22:6‍

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

Ephesians 6:4‍

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Colossians 3:21

"Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged."

Psalm 103:13

‍“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.”

Matthew 7:9–11

Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Luke 15:20-24‍

“So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”
