Performing Arts

As busy as ever – the Performing Arts rooms are an active place to be.

It has been a very busy term in preparation for the Spring Music Concert. Around rehearsals there are also many activities taking place in Dance, Drama and Music. Excursions, concerts, classes keep us busy every moment of the day.

Term 4 seems just as busy with an excursion to Hairspray, V.C.E. Performing Arts students presenting their performance exams, a performance at the Chelsea market and the many end of year school celebration/award ceremonies & presentation night.

30th Annual Spring Concert

Tuesday 13th September marked the performance of the 30th Annual Musical Spring Concert. This was a very momentous occasion as it was our first concert in 3 years! Music students and staff were delighted to play to a sold out audience in the Performing Arts Centre for the evening show. The bands rocked as usual and we are, as always, very proud of our students and their many talents. Congratulations to all the students who performed and helped to create a wonderful night.

A special mention goes out to our graduating Year 12 music students who have now played their very last concert. These students have diligently supported the program throughout their time at the College and continue to provide inspiration for the up and comers below them. As they begin to study for their final exams, we would like to thank them for their commitment and wish them the very best of luck.

Congratulations Ben Fu – Year 11

Congratulation Ben for your wonderful performance at the Preston Symphony Youth Orchestra Competition. Ben performed the first movement of the Prokofiev Concerto no 3 with technical mastery and colour. Performing with the Orchestra, the soloist and ensemble relate to each other by alternation, competition, and combination.

Lunchtime activities

A reminder of the following Performing Arts activities that occur regularly throughout the year. Each of these groups rehearse weekly, working towards performance opportunities both at school and in our local community. All welcome!

VCE Dance

On Thursday 8th September, VCE Dance Students had the opportunity to watch Sydney Dance Company’s performance ‘Impermanence’ at the Playhouse Theatre in Melbourne.  During this performance, the company was joined live on stage by the Australian String Quartet and presented their full-length contemporary dance work.  Students were involved in a pre-show discussion with the choreographer and Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela, and had the opportunity to ask questions about the show, the choreographic process, and the transition into full time dance and industry during a post-show Question and Answer session with dancers and the artistic team.  It was a fabulous experience for our dance students.

Even though there have been interruptions, you are to be commended for your persistence in keeping the Performing Arts an active and fulfilling part of your lives. Our very best wishes to you.
