Boxing Program

Over the last 10 weeks our Wellbeing Team members Taela and Michael have been piloting a Boxing Program with both Year 9 and Year 10 students. This program has been designed to show students how to release any built-up stress and anger in a safe and productive manner, whilst giving them a space to do something they enjoy. Each week the students get input into some of the activities/ exercises they will do in a session and utilise their leaderships skills by helping and encouraging one another. The program has seen a positive impact on the students’ attendance and engagement at school and has helped build positive relationships and connections with staff. For our last session this term our Year 9 and Year 10 boys went to BEAST gym in Chelsea Heights for a hard training session. All students were extremely respectful to Alex the instructor, set a wonderful example for PRSC and worked incredibly hard. Our Wellbeing Team members Taela and Michael are extremely proud of all these boys for all their hard work and dedication over the last 10 weeks – as well as the respect they have shown Taela, Michael, Mr O'Brien, Mr Leith and one another throughout this program. Congratulations to all these students.

R U OK? Week

At Patterson River Secondary College, we are committed to developing and maintaining a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all our staff and students. Friday the 26h of August was Wear it Purple Day, which is a national day that strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for all our LGBTQIA+ young people. Our college’s RESPECT ACTION GROUP decided to host this day on Thursday 25th of August to include all year levels across the College in this day of celebration. On the College’s Wear it Purple Day we raised the pride flag and invited all students and staff to wear a purple accessory for the day to show their support towards the LGBTQIA+ community. At lunchtime we painted a single purple nail for students and staff that wished to join in and show their support. A big thank you to all involved, especially our PRSC RESPECT ACTION group for their organisation of this event and their continued commitment to ensuring PRSC is a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

Year 7 Lunch Program Term 3

Our Youth Worker Michael Carrucan has been running different activities each Wednesday lunchtime for our Year 7 students this term. Some of the activities have included trivia, Minute to Win it games, board games, scavenger hunts, bingo, and making a Father’s Day gift. Lunchtime activities are a great opportunity for students to meet new friends, socialise with their peers, and connect with staff members. These activities have been well attended each week and we hope to see lots of Year 7 students attend during Term 4.
