Sports Update 

EMR TRACK & FIELD – VERMONT SECONDARY COLLEGE OVERALL CHAMPIONS

EMR Track & Field event was held on Monday the 10th of October at Knox Athletics Track. It was an absolutely beautiful day for athletics with the sun shining and the wind at a minimum. Vermont had a strong team of 58 athletes who competed in several events across the day.

Team Vermont performed incredibly well across the entirety of the event and as a result won the EMR Track & Field Pennant with a total score of 461 points. This total was a sum of the 1st placed female team score of 285 points and 3rd place male team score of 176 points.

To win an EMR Track & Field Championship as a school is an outstanding achievement and a testament to the hard work and commitment from the students involving themselves in training sessions and participating in extra events such as All Schools. Congratulations to all, and a special thank you to David Clements for his time and effort with the relay teams.

Finally, thank you to our year 12 students Morgan P, Joey W and Mitchell D whose athletics careers at VSC have drawn to a close. Your efforts over the years have been second to none. You have been an asset to the College Sports Program. All the best for the future.

VICTORIAN ALL SCHOOLS TRACK RELAYS

On Thursday the 15th of September 43 students ranging from all year levels came together to compete at the Victorian All Schools Track Relays. Vermont had multiple teams running in the 4x100m, 4x400m, 4x800m and Medley which consists of 2x200, 1x400m, 1x800m. It was a great day and night out on the athletics track at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park. It was great being able to cheer on our fellow Vermont peers, and seeing everyone try their best against a number of independent schools and Frankston High School. Overall it was a great experience, and many of us are looking forward to competing again next year.

It was fantastic to see so many students putting themselves out there and gaining more track experience leading into EMR and State Track and Field in October.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS HOCKEY

On the 11th of October, the intermediate girl’s hockey team competed in the EMR competition at the Hawthorn Malvern Hockey Club, in Malvern. We left Vermont in great spirits and ready to play our very best. When we finally arrived, a change in schedule was announced and we had to be ready and on the field ASAP. We then had our first game against Koonung SC and despite many desperate attempts and efforts we just couldn’t get a goal in the end, unfortunately we lost to Koonung 2-0 but since we had no warmup or practice beforehand, we played quite well. Straight afterwards we had our second game of the day against Ringwood SC, and a chance to get some fresh players on the field and to also implement new strategies and tactics. During the first half of the game, we managed to get two well-earned goals, but the fatigue got the best of us, and Ringwood also scored two in the second half, putting us in a tie. Sadly, we got informed that Vermont was eliminated because to play in the finals we needed a win. Luckily though, as a treat, Mr Gillespie and Mr Pinder took us to 7-11 to buy some snacks to watch the rest of the games for the day. Although we didn’t make it through the next round all the girls had a lot of fun and made lots of memories for life.
