Welcome to Term 4

Welcome to a new term of exciting Performing Arts events!

This term, we are looking forward to Celebration Night at Robert Blackwood Hall. Other events for Term 4 include the Years 2 and 3 String Program concert, the Year 5 Band Program concert, the Valedictory Service and the Induction Service.

Please make sure to keep an eye on the Diary Dates section at the end of the Music Notes page.

VCE Music Recital

On 14 September, the Unit 4 VCE music students performed their 25-minute programs to a thoroughly entertained audience. Performances on the night included classical piano, French horn and contemporary voice.

The VCE recital allows VCE music performance students to perform for peers, staff and family. This is excellent practice for their final performance examinations in October.

The performances are performed under examination conditions, which can usually be quite daunting for students. This is why these types of performances, which are held before the final recital, are crucial!

We wish all VCE Music students all the best for their upcoming recitals.

Online VCE Music analysis workshop

On the final day of Term 3, the VCE Music Performance classes were lucky enough to participate in an online VCE analysis workshop with Jenny Gillan, the author of the VCE Music text, Listening Beyond Hearing

The workshop concentrated on improvisation and how to analyse music which features improvisation, embellishment and ornamentation. The students core focus on improvisation was in relation to its three main components of melody, articulation and rhythm.

The workshop was worthwhile and explored these music elements in detail with appropriate vocabulary. The VCE Music students learnt a great deal from their experiences.
