During Term 3, the dance students at Wyndham College were involved in a range of wonderful activities that allowed them to perform and engage in performance & workshop opportunities. The students gained valuable knowledge in performing, composing and appreciating dance. These opportunities included:

NSW State Dance Festival

On Wednesday 7th September, the Wyndham College Dance Ensemble took their final

curtain call at the BLOOM NSW State Dance Festival. On stage at the Seymour Centre for the second time this year, our amazing dancers gave their farewell performance of Crowding Crows in a show packed with some of the best performers from public schools across the State. A huge thank you to our wonderful dance students for their dedication over the last three terms. The students also took part in a creative contemporary dance workshop with teacher Phaedra Brown.

On Friday the 9th September Aaliyah-Jane Thomas performed at the State Dance Festival as a member of The Aboriginal Dance Company. Aaliyah-Jane had the privilege of performing Spinifex and an excerpt from Terrain, choreographed by Frances Rings, Associate Artistic Director of the Bangarra Dance Theatre.

Congratulations Aaliyah-Jane, we are all so proud of you and can't wait to see you perform at the School Spectacular later this term.

Steamdance

On Wednesday 14th September, Wyndham College dance students, as well as invited dancers from the Nirimba Collegiate, were honoured by a visit from the Australian Ballet's STEAMDANCE program. They visited the College to bring learning to life in an artistic, creative and stimulating day of dance. The STEAMDANCE program is aimed at increasing access to ballet and the arts, as well as providing opportunities to spend time with professional artists. Our dancers enjoyed practical workshops in safe dance practice, dance technique and choreography with artists from the Australian Ballet Education program.

Wyndham College was also treated to a wonderful, engaging and inspiring performance of Romeo & Juliet, choreographed by Paul Knobloch and performed by some amazing artists of The Australian Ballet. Former Wyndham dance/drama teacher Elena Salerno was one of the featured artists. This outstanding performance allowed our stage 6 students to develop context around the work Juliet & Romeo, which is the prescribed text for their Dance Appreciation HSC exam.
