Grade 4’s Cooking Trip to Salesian.

26-10-22

We travelled to Salesian on the bus first thing in the morning. We were super excited and happy. Some of us had never cooked before! We began the experience by going into a special Food Tech Theory Room. It looked like a miniature classroom, just like the ones we have at our school. While we were in the theory room, Kate showed us a variety of uncommon vegetables, and we had to try and identify them. Some of the vegetables were tricky. We discovered some vegetable names like wombok and fennel. After the theory lesson we went into the kitchen and we had a safety talk. My first impression of the kitchen was that it was HUGE! It reminded me of the kitchens in Master Chef. After this, we started collecting all of our ingredients and prepared our areas for cooking. After 45 minutes and a lot of grating, cracking, measuring and stirring, we had cooked our beautiful golden crispy muffins. The muffins were outstanding. Next we cleaned up and had a tasting session. The purpose of this was to improve our recipe using the design process. The entire day was fun and we learnt a lot! Thanks Salesian for having us.

Lucas:

My favourite part of the day was cooking the muffins.

Jaeda:

My favourite part of the day was measuring and mixing the ingredients.

Romeo:

My favourite part was making the first batch of muffins and seeing my siblings at Salesian.

Elliott:

My favourite part of the day was eating the muffins. They felt fluffy and soft in my mouth and they tasted delicious!

GRADE 3

So much happening in the grade 3 area. We went to Lady Northcote camp where we experienced new challenges, we went for a fly in the air on the giant swing and enjoyed a paddle on the lake in the canoes. We have been busy designing and learning new skills like sewing so we can make a functional library bag. We have also enjoyed a couple of incursions where we have learnt the skills of coding - one with robotics and the other with Lego. We are only half way through the term with so much more learning to occur. So much fun and learning still to happen.

YEAR 3/4 CAMP

On the year 3 and 4's camp there were plenty of activities to do like biking, canoeing and many others. The food was delightful and the cabins were beautiful.

Grade One Excursion to Macedon Lounge

Last Wednesday, a very excited bunch of grade one children headed to Macedon Lounge to participate in a pizza making workshop. The children followed the procedure of pizza making guided by the chef, who took the children through the process of flouring the board, rolling the dough, applying a thin layer of sauce, followed by toppings of their choice, then the all important step of adding a final layer of cheese to hold the pizza together - and to taste EXTRA delicious of course!! Whilst our pizzas were cooking, we headed to the nearby park for lots of fun on the playground and flying fox before returning to devour our yummy pizzas.

Grade One Activity Night

Last afternoon, the Year One children had lots of fun at our Year One Activity night. Excitement was in the air as the end of the day bell rang because we knew we had the entire school all to ourselves! We played lots of fun games together including Musical Chairs, Zombies, Heads Down Thumbs Up, Cosmic Yoga and Bobs and Statues. After all this playing we were ready for our dinner of yummy hot dogs and fruit kebabs. Before we knew it, it was the end of the night, where our Year One families were welcomed into our classroom spaces before heading home.

GRADE 5 EXCURSION

Our Year 5 children explored 'The Story of the Moving Image' exhibition at ACMI as part of our design investigations. We can't wait to see where the learning takes us!

Outdoor Ed Rafts!

The saying goes, if life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Well if life gives you lots of rain, we thought, let’s make rafts! That is just what the children in Year 3 - 6 did during their Outdoor Ed classes last term. Somehow they also convinced Aoife that it would be a good idea for her to try them out on our school dam!

Aoife was a great sport braving not only the weather but the mud and yabbies around the dam to test the final designs.

The children spent weeks designing, making prototypes, collecting materials from home and working collaboratively to build the rafts.

Children were excited and a little nervous to see their rafts enter the water, we are pleased to report that all rafts floated! There were many smiles and cheers when they stayed afloat and those cheers may have gotten louder when someone went overboard?!

Aoife provided feedback on each design, the rafts strengths and areas that could be improved. Some rafts had handles to hang on to and some groups provided a floating device for Aoife to wear whilst testing the raft, very thoughtful! There was so much discussion around this process, surely we will do it all again next year, so that feedback can be taken on board, (along with a paddle!)
