Aoife's Message

Dear Holy Cross families,

We are well and truly into the thick of things at this point in the term. The whole place is a hive of activity as the weather warms up a little.

General updates

Year 3/4 Camp - Lady Northcote

What an amazing experience for our children. The giant swing proved itself to be the site of much bravery, teamwork and encouragement. Between canoeing, low ropes, bike riding, exploring the campsite and hut building the two days were absolutely jam-packed. A huge thank you to our staff who left their own families for the night to ensure this event could take place. You are very much appreciated!

Year 1 Activity Night

I can hear giggles as I type this newsletter. They're coming from the multipurpose room where our Year 1 children are playing games, chowing down on hot dogs and fruit skewers and revelling in being at school after hours! Thank you very much to our Year 1 team for organising this fun experience.

Year 4 visit to Salesian College

We are very appreciative of the generosity of Salesian College in sharing their amazing food tech space with us this week. Our children had a great time testing out their recipes.

We have had several other events take place this fortnight. Please check the Holy Cross happenings section of the newsletter for more detail!

Please also carefully read the Dates for your Diary list. We have a whole school closure day coming up on Monday 31st October, the day before the Melbourne Cup public holiday.

Staffing update

2023 will bring some changes to our team at Holy Cross. Brian Coughlan will be officially retiring following his extended leave. Cathy Turner will also be taking extended leave in 2023 and therefore will not be assigned to a class. Alison McKenzie and Amy Cavanagh have both been successful in applying for roles at another school. Lana Gusak will be spending time with her family next year and therefore will not be taking a classroom role. Karina Romania, who has been on long service leave will be pursuing roles outside of teaching. I am delighted to share with you that we had a wide number of applicants keen to join our team. We have appointed Cailin Prebble, Louise Ralph, Michelle Ray and Jodie Davis as classroom teachers for 2023.  We have two more roles to fill, with interviews set to take place soon. I feel privileged to know that so many people want to join our community, and feel equally fortunate to have been able to support staff in moving into new roles, whether at other schools, or in other capacities.

Have a relaxing long weekend.
