Antipasta Banquet

Last week the two Year 9 Cooking Around the World classes did a fabulous job of making a variety of antipasta dishes.

They made Florentine Pizzas, bruschetta, creamy garlic tortellini, cheese twists and Parmesan coated chorizo.

The students were very proud of their efforts and thoroughly enjoyed the antipasta dishes made.

A Prayer for the Queen

College Captains Sophie Darroch and Ben Black led the College in the following prayer last Friday morning:

We pause for a moment to gather in prayer as we remember the extraordinary life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

On her twenty-first birthday, 21 April 1947, then Princess Elizabeth (and heir to the throne) made the following vow:

I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.

Five years later, after the unexpected death of her father, King George VI, the 25-year-old Elizabeth was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and Head of the Commonwealth.

Her death brings to an end an extraordinary 70-year reign as Queen and a lifetime of service and devotion to her people.

Her reign, the longest of any British monarch, has endured through times of immense political, economic and social change across the globe, including the moon landing, the end of the British empire and the transition to the Commonwealth of Nations, the rise of the Internet age, the end of the Cold War, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

As an illustration of the longevity of her reign, during Elizabeth's time as monarch, there have been 15 British Prime Ministers, 14 United States Presidents, and 16 Australian Prime Ministers. Her first British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, was born in 1874, and her final Prime Minister, Liz Truss, was born in 1975.

Despite all these remarkable changes, she endured as a symbol of consistency, stoicism and quiet dignity.

For most Australians, she is the only monarch they have ever known, and her death is a significant turning point for our nation.

As the second Elizabethan Age comes to a close, we also commemorate the ascent of our new king, Charles III.

Together we pray:

Loving God, we give thanks for the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

For her stoicism, faith and unstinting dedication to duty during an era of unprecedented global change.

Mother of Mercy, pray for us.

Live Jesus in our Hearts, forever.

Exploring Gulidjan Country

On Friday September 9 the Year 8 Victorian Aboriginal Language class travelled around Gulidjan country.

They explored some of the natural features of the area, focusing on the changes in landscape.

Water and potential food sources were identified along the way, as well as evidence of early settlement in the area.

The impact of white settlement on First Nations people was discussed along with the fate of the explorers like Gellibrand and Hesse.
