Luke in Rare Air on Everest

We were fortunate to have former Colac man Luke Rollnik as a guest speaker for our Year 10 and 11 students today.

Luke achieved a dream and joined an elite club when he climbed to the summit of Mount Everest in May this year.

Luke shared his inspirations, his preparation for the trek and what he learned along the way.

It was a project years in the planning with intense devotion to preparation, safety and gradually building the fitness, skills and mindset required to succeed.

Luke shared photos and videos from his earlier climbs and from Everest, where for a moment in time he was the highest person in the world looking down on billions of people.

He placed a photo of a good friend, who died from cancer, on top of the world.

Luke told the students their attitude determines their altitude and they need to stay positive through adversity.

He challenged them to quit the things that hold them back from their dreams and to dream big.

And he told them there was no such thing as an overnight success, to do the work and not compare themselves to others.

Luke is a passionate supporter of the Nepalese people and schools in the area and plans to return there in March next year leading a team to Base Camp and supporting communities along the way.
