Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the final week of term 3. It has been a term full of activities and events and also a term that has provided us all with some challenges.

The workload has definitely increased for our VCE students as they finish off their course work and start preparing for their final exams. Over the next two weeks our senior students studying a Year 12 VCE subject will be coming into school to complete trial exams and when they aren’t in at school, hopefully, they will be undertaking as much study as possible.

The advice I provide to the Year 12 students I teach is to try and stick to a normal school day routine during the holiday break because if they do that they will be setting themselves up well for their final two weeks at school as well as the exams.

This week we farewell our Year 12 VCAL students along with our Year 12 students who have chosen not to receive an ATAR score and therefore do not need to sit the examinations.

All of these students will join us again for the official final day of Year 12 on October 14. I would like to thank these students for everything they have given to their school and wish them luck as they pursue their chosen pathways.

I would like to thank all our families for taking part in our Student Learning Conversations. I hope you found them worthwhile and are now better informed as we work in partnership to ensure the best possible learning is taking place both here at school and at home.

In addition, we had a number of parents take up the opportunity to meet with Rachel McGennisken and I to provide feedback on where they currently see Trinity College and where they would like the school to be in five years’ time. The feedback we received is extremely helpful as we continue to develop our school strategic plan and continue to work on improving all that we do here.

Activities and Excursions

We currently have a number of our Year 10 students travelling up the middle of Australia on the Top End Tour, enjoying the sites and experiencing some warmer weather. Other activities that have been taking place recently include a variety of sporting fixtures including soccer, netball, and basketball.

Our Robotics Team competed in the state finals in Melbourne last weekend and achieved some excellent results.

Our Year 10 and 11 students had the opportunity to hear from Luke Rollnik. Luke inspired our students and staff with his story about reaching the peak of Mt Everest, a climb he undertook in honour of a friend who had died of cancer.

Luke also raised money for charity and provided sporting equipment for some very poor schools in Nepal.

This week we celebrate the history of Trinity College with Founders' Day, which takes place on Thursday. The day will include a liturgy focused on the stories of Edmund Rice and Catherine McAuley, the founders of the Christian Brothers and Mercy Sisters who began our school.

Each house has a dress up theme and will run activities with the money raised supporting charities of their choice. We are hoping the weather is kind to us so we are able to have a great community celebration to end the term.

I wish all of our students a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to seeing them back at school on Monday, October 3.
