Inquiry

This Term, the whole school Inquiry topic is Design, Innovation and Creativity.

In response to the staff Religious Education School Closure Day, teachers will explore school charism with their students, sharing with them the stories of our founders Nano Nagle and The Presentation Sisters. They started Holy Family School in 1960.

Prep

Big Question: How does God’s design help my light shine?

The Preps will learn about Nano Nagle and Jesus, who brought light to people’s lives. They will examine the story of Creation and the birth of Jesus in the Christmas narrative.

Their inquiry unit will bring in elements of science as the students examine where light and sound come from and the observable changes in our sky. They will present their ideas through media artworks.

Year 1/2

Big Question: How do we tell the story of our school charism?

The Year 1 and Year 2 students will explore the stories of Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters. They will also examine significant people and sacred places as part of the Religious Education curriculum.

The students will look at the history of Holy Family School to springboard their investigation. They will then use Digital Technologies to present their wonderings and findings through the Puppet Pals App.

Year 3/4

Big Question: What is my story, and how do I tell others about it?

The students will explore their local community to investigate things that have changed and remained the same, as well as groups and individuals that have contributed to the community’s development.

The students will also have an opportunity to explore their personal histories and share these stories with others using digital technologies.

As part of religious education, the Year 3/4 students will be exploring Jesus’ story and the stories of our school founders; and how these contribute to developing their own identity.

Year 5/6

Big Question: How can we be a light for others?

The senior students will all be going on an excursion to ACMI this week, where they will participate in some media art workshops. The students will then use this knowledge to create their own media artworks that explore the concept of friendship.
