Middle Years

Year 7 Camp

This year, over one hundred and thirty Year 7s and their teachers took the short drive to Mylor Adventure Camp, in the Adelaide Hills. Once we got there, we entered a haven where all schoolwork was left behind.

Our activities ranged from raft making in the swimming pool to the heart-stopping, but exhilarating giant swing. Some favorites were probably the flying fox, two hundred metres long and seven metres above ground. Another was the outdoor Challenge Course, which left us very wet and muddy! Other activities included: bridge building, low ropes, canoeing, archery and mountain biking. At night, there were even more activities to enjoy, including quiz night, twilight/night hiking and free time in the (very cold) swimming pool.

There were many chances to make new friends and open our friendship groups. Our dorm and activity groups were mixed up, and we all got to know a few more people. There was also the Year 7 Camp Village Shield, this year’s champion was Spence. The Village Shield was decided by the Village which earned the most Endeavour tokens with students showing acts of Love, Courage, Forgiveness and Hope. Love and Courage appeared to be the values demonstrated most at camp going by the number of tokens given out.

On the bus trip home there were mixed feelings in the air. Some part of us wanted to stay and do fun things all day for a little longer, but most of us wanted to go home and sink into a massive sea of pillows. One thing is for sure, everyone had a great time.
