Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal

Building Update

Thank you all for your understanding as we embark on this school improvement journey. We must remember throughout that the destination will be well worthwhile.

We continue to meet with the builders and architects fortnightly.  The year 2 and 4 classrooms should be ready to move into at the beginning of next term.  It’s been very exciting seeing the classrooms coming together and finally taking shape.  With  painting well on the way and the joinery being installed I am hoping that after we return from the holidays they will have installed the carpet and we can make the move into the new space.

We are desperately seeking support in the Art room to help with the packing up of our art supplies.  We are not asking for you to carry boxes to their new destination but to help within the room to pack up materials into boxes ready for the move.  Thank you to those parents who have been in the art room all this week supporting Denise with this mammoth task.  If you can help during the first week next term we would love to see you.  All art materials need to be out of the art room by the end of the first week of Term 3.

Next Term Principals' offices, first aid room, the office staff, specialist offices, staff kitchen and uniform shop will all be in site sheds outside the year 4 classrooms. We are open for business and our doors although might be closed due to the cold weather are always open to our families.   Please visit us as we are operating as usual, while the building is under refurbishment.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Thank you to all the parents who have come along this week for Parent-Teacher interviews. These are crucial meetings to build the partnership and to help your child have further learning success for the second half of the year. If you have not had a Parent-Teacher meeting please contact your child’s teacher so that a time can be arranged. I have asked all teachers to ensure that they have made every effort to speak to every family as the ‘partnership’ with teachers and parents is so important to children’s schooling success.

This partnership is built through good communication.

A huge thank you to Parents Association for organising the “Feed the Teachers” on Tuesday night during Parent Teacher Interviews.  Staff truly appreciate this kind gesture. This community support is what gives our school that close supportive relationship.

2017 Chocolate Drive

Our main fundraiser for Term 2 was the annual chocolate drive. Thank you to all families that supported this fundraiser with many families selling more than they were initially given.  A push notification went home this week asking for your further support as we have 60 boxes still left to sell and with the school in moving mode we desperately need to ask if any families could take a box and sell them over the holidays to family, friends, grandparents, neighbours or work colleagues.

Please get behind this fundraiser and help us in this fundraising venture to fully sell all of our chocolates… Thanking you in advance for your continued support.

Bike Racks

The bike shed area is one area that will be making the move over the holidays- after much deliberation and discussion we believe we might have found a temporary solution to children being able to continue to ride to school next term.  Bike and scooters can be chained and locked onto the black fence between the staff carpark and the basketball court at the front of the school.

Because they are outside though, the children must have some way to lock their bike or scooter up for the day. We would appreciate your assistance in giving them a bike lock or chain suitable for keeping their bike/scooter safe.

The children will need to take their helmet with them to the classroom during this time, to prevent them from getting lost.

Thank you for your continued patience in this matter.

School Magazine

In 2017, Boronia Heights will be publishing our first School Magazine.  This will be an annual publication.  An annual school magazine is a wonderful way to celebrate the successes of the year.   A magazine is a great reminder of the wonderful events and activities that your children have participated in.  This magazine will display every grade and specialist area and celebrate whole school events in both photographs and words.  It will become a special keepsake for children and families to read through and enjoy for years to come and is a fantastic Christmas present for grandparents. From next year, the cost of the magazine will be included in the booklist but this year we need to have exact numbers and payment upfront for us to order the correct number from the printers.  Do not miss placing your order as once we have placed orders with the printers there is no opportunity to order later.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our school to celebrate our achievements and great for the school to showcase the amazing programs, our students and staff, that help make our community special.  At the beginning of Term 3  information will be sent home for you to fill in and return the slip and money. The cost of the magazine is $17.00 and will be distributed at the end of the year.

Staffing

Mr. Jeff Carter is still unwell and will not be returning for the remainder of the year.  We wish him all the best in his recovery. Mrs. Judy Goulding will be continuing for the remainder of the year as the class teacher.  I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Judy for the wonderful work she has done in 2B to date.

Mrs. Judy Ashwell is not returning next term and is on Carers' Leave.  Ms. Megan Watson will remain in the grade for next term.  A very big thankyou to Megan for the great work in 1A this year.

Mr. Ron Smith will not be returning for the remainder of the year. He too is taking Carers' Leave.  We wish him and his family all the very best.  Ms Jess Lane will be the class teacher in 6C. Jess is an experienced teacher who has worked in the school last term.

Curriculum Day Reminder

Our final curriculum day will be held on Monday the 31st July.  If you are requiring care for your child with Camp Australia please contact them as soon as possible as they will only be able to operate if we have significant numbers.

Prep Enrolments for 2018

Do you have a Prep student for 2018? Please pick up an enrolment form from the office. The earlier we know our numbers the better we can plan for the students. We would love to give you an up to date tour of the school and explain our state of the art facilities upgrade.

Happy Holidays

We wish you a very safe and happy term break and look forward to seeing you all back on the first day of next term. We dismiss at 2:30pm on Friday 30 June and the first day of term 3 is Monday the 17 July.

Take Care.
