Start of 2018 and Reporting to Parents
We have had a very successful transition into 2018. Teachers are impressed with how the children were ready to go. After some significant changes last year students are starting in their needs based groups from day one. We no longer conduct testing in Years 1-6 which increases the teaching and learning time. Prep students still need to be tested, and we are doing this as fast as possible. We have provided Prep parents with a report on where their child is at, along the learning continuum as they enter Kingswood. This will help inform parents about growth and provide a point of reference for the June reports.
This year, we will have reports in Terms 1, 2, 3 and 4 this year. These reports will be based on the curriculum covered during that term. In both June and December reports will also be accompanied by a numerical reference point. Where once an A was given for being 12 months ahead, a student must now be 18 months ahead.
Japan 2019
I can’t believe it is already time for us to think about our 2019 Year 5 and 6 Japan Tour. We will be inviting parents to an information night on 19th March. After this evening we will open up reservations for the 2019 Japanese Study tour with a $1,000 deposit to confirm a space. This deposit will be due by May 18th. This is a Kingswood highlight for all students who attend this camp. Students get to experience the culture and history of Japan in a manner not offered by others. This will be an extremely unique experience. The tour coordinator will be Mr Teizo Kato, please forward any questions you may have to him. Might I suggest first you attend his very informative information night on 19th March.
Australian Open
Daniel from 6S was lucky enough to actually play on the courts of the Australian Open.
What an experience!
Professional Development
As Kingswood is a school that is a leader in education, we have started the school year at full pace. Teachers are life long learners and already some of our staff have attended lectures by Misty Adoniou, on how to use literature to improve student outcomes. This was so informative that we have booked Ms Adoniou for the whole staff at the beginning of 2019. Our school leaders spent 2 days away together studying with Dr. Paul Browning whose focus was on building trust and how this produces effective change. He visited us from a school that is ranked in the top 50 in the world. We have also started to work with our partner school Kingsley Primary School. We have an enormous schedule of professional growth this year. I would like to thank our staff in advance for having a thirst for learning and who are not prepared to just sit back and accept that we are high performing school. We believe we always have more to learn.
