Pastoral Care

Christmas is such a beautiful time of year. It is a time for celebration with family and friends as we celebrate the birth of Christ. He is the reason for the season. This year my Christmas will be quite different. It is the first I will spend after the passing of my beloved Dad and like many people who have experienced a loss I know such family gatherings shall never be the same. My family will still celebrate together, share a meal and exchange gifts but there will be a noticeable difference; an empty chair. This year there is no excited anticipation for Christmas just the overwhelming realisation that although life goes on; it is a different life and one that will take some adjusting too.

I have had time to reflect and think about what this family gathering will be like and whilst I know there will be a tear or two I also know that this year more than ever I will value and appreciate all who attend and cherish our special time together as none of us know what next year will bring.

I know that mine is not the only family to experience loss during this year and sadly, recently within our community many families have also had to deal with personal tragedy, breakdown of family relationships and loss. Please take the time to reach out to them and let them know that they are supported, they are valued and are not alone. Don’t be afraid to ask if they are OK? Trust me; you will never regret being kind.

Last week at our end of year Mass evidence of community spirit and kindness were apparent with the presentation of 36 Christmas hampers to representatives from St Vincent de Paul. Thank you to everyone who donated items and members of the C.A.T who volunteered to help create these beautiful gifts of goodwill. Special mention to Mr Seers and his 7:5 homeroom who collected enough items to create two complete hampers, congratulations and well done.

Finally, thank you to everyone who have supported the Community Action Team during 2018. I hope that everyone has a safe and relaxing break and I look forward to returning in 2019 when I shall get to work with our new C.A.T leaders who will rise to the challenge of becoming active members of their community. Becoming involved with our St Vincent de Paul Youth Conference (aka C.A.T) allows students to recognise, reflect and respond to causes of human injustices and inequality through advocacy and action. Exciting times ahead.

Merry Christmas and to each and every one; I hope you have a happy new year.
