Student Reports

Year 4 Learning

Year 4G students have been busy writing Procedural Texts and Information Reports.

This week we discussed which season is better - Summer or Winter?

We used 'emotive language' to persuade our friends which season to vote for.

Friday Community Sport - Golf

Every Friday a few Year Fives and Sixes go off to the Albert Park driving range where we play golf.

We have been learning to use different golf clubs like irons and drivers. We are taught by our instructor Kate. We learnt the technique of how to hit the golf ball with each club but our favourite was the driver.

The driver is for when you’re teeing off at the start on a tee box which is an area where you put a tiny piece of wood or plastic to lift your ball.

The iron can be lots of clubs, like a sand wedge and no not a sandwich, a 9 iron all the way down to a 1 iron, which go the furthest out of the irons.

Then there is the putter which is a lot of the time the difference between winning and losing.

We all loved golf and definitely would want to do it again.

Dendy Cross Country

On the 18th of May all the Galilee representatives for the cross country had a meeting in the hall at 10:30. Then we got on the bus ready for a fun trip, expecting a half an hour trip it went for 1 hour and ten minutes. When we got there the Grade 6’s got the sand bags from the bottom of the bus and carried them to our spot to stay for the day.

The 9/10 girls got called to the starting line. When the marshals got them in the right spot, the starting gun sound went (the gun noise came out of a megaphone).  The girls ran around the first corner all running a really good race. When the first runner came around the 2nd last corner and everyone ran to the rope to cheer the runners on. When Galilee ran past everyone cheered.

When the race ended the 9/10 boys went to the starting line. This was the race I was in. There were 250 people in my race making the starting line very crowded!  The starting megaphone went and we ran off around the first corner. It is much harder than the school cross country because there are lots of hills, the ground is rough and you are running with so many other kids.  We all had a really good 2km race.

11 year old races were next and all did very well in their 3k race. The 12/13 girls had the second last race, all were very excited from all the sugar they ate before hand. Then the final race happened and the 12/13 boys had a amazing race.

Galilee came fourth in the percentage and fourth overall.

Everyone was tired from running a hard 2 or 3 km race and doing their best.

Thank you to Mr. Tobin, the teachers and the parents who made it possible for us to compete.

Dendy Cross Country

On the 18th May, some of the Year 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and Sixes participated in Dendy Cross Country. We left at 10:30 and headed to Bald Hill where we would be racing.

The first race was the 9/10 girls followed by the 9/10 boys. Shortly after were the 11 girls and then the 11 boys. The last races of the day were the 12/13 girls then the 12/13 boys. Everyone did a great job and had a great time.

Overall Galilee finished fourth out of nine schools. Thank you to the parent helpers that came with us and a special thanks to Mr.Tobin for organising the event.
