Science
Term 1
Science is coming alive this term with the study of Biology and living things.
This term the Prep’s are learning how to take care of pets and will be helping out with the guinea pigs. They have met the class pets and learnt a song to help them understand their needs. The grade 1/2’s are learning about the changes animals go through throughout their lifecycle by observing mealworms. They are also developing skills in recording and presenting scientific observations.
The grade 3/4’s are focusing on the difference between living and non-living things by categorising their features. They have observed various specimens in the classroom and will be exploring the frog bog and the eucalyptus canopy to enhance their understanding of the 5 kingdoms.
The grade 5/6’s are discovering microorganisms and how they can help and hinder humans, by conducting experiments with yeast and bread. Throughout the term the students will learn about many different microorganisms and where they live. They will also refine their skills in experimental design and analysing results.
