Mandarin

Mandarin

Welcome to our first term of learning LOTE Mandarin at Truganina South Primary School. I am very excited to have started this brand new program here. Thank you to every student, parents and all the colleagues who have given me great responses and feedback about the new language program.

All Preps to Year 4s are doing Mandarin this year. In term 1:

Preps are learning the basic greeting of Mandarin whilst exploring some of the legendary Chinese stories. Class activities include singing and word games and more.

Grade 1-2s are learning about basic greeting, exchanging their names with each other, Chinese numbers and money. There will be lots of singing and memory games involved in this learning journey.

Grade 3-4s learn about Mandarin as an additional language to English, they explore the distinctive language systems of Chinese characters, basic greeting, hands on activity like Chinese New Year bookmark making, pop song singing and games both physical and online.

Move-a-thon dragon making:

Visual Art and Mandarin are collaborating and making our very own Truganina South Primary School dragon for the Move-a-thon fundraising event in March. We would like to collect 1L and/or 2L milk bottles, to make the body part of our dragon, if you could remember to thoroughly clean the recycled milk bottle and bring them to Mandarin room before 15th of March, we appreciate your joined effort in making our dragon ‘alive’ and such action is good for our planet too!

Thank you (xiè xie) and I look forward to many more fun times ahead.

Yours

Yuán bīn (lǎo shī )
