Amethyst

Congratulations and welcome to our amazing Prep students and their families. What an incredible two weeks we have had together in Amethyst getting to know each other and completing lots of fun activities. The Construction Discovery Area has been very popular. We had a wonderful day for our Chinese New Year dress up.  Georgia, Tori, Heather and Vicki are looking forward to working with you all this year, we have so many fun things planned!

Topaz

A very warm hello from the Topaz teachers! Swim on in to our under-the-sea themed classroom! Our team includes Anna, Kara, Paula, Hayley and Farzana. We've had a great start to the year and aim to continue with the successes we've already had. Thank you to the parents who came to meet and greet. We are already utilising the vital information you shared with us about your child.

We look forward to working with you as a team to achieve the best learning outcomes for all students in Topaz!

Opal

3...2...1... BLAST INTO OPAL

We’ve had a fantastic start in Opal with all students settling in well. The meet and greets were very helpful in assisting us in including some of your child’s interests in their learning. We can’t wait to use more of this information throughout the year and watch our astronauts, shoot for the stars!

Over the last few weeks in Opal Community some our little Astronauts have been taking initiative around the school by helping to keep our yard clean for everyone to enjoy! After one of our students Elliana noticed that there was a lot of rubbish gathering at the back fence of our oval, she took action and asked for volunteers (Lavi, Seerat, Molly, Bella and Lachie) to help her manage the rubbish she had seen. Some other superstars in our community volunteered their time during lunch and snack times. At the end of one lunch they had filled a whole rubbish bin bag! By showing our school value of Excellence, these rubbish rescuers showed the rest of our community how to keep our our yard safe and respectful. Great job at keeping our planet Earth clean!

Sapphire

Sapphire have had a brilliant start to 2019. We’ve rolled out the red carpet for our Hollywood themed community. Last week, we enjoyed dressing up for the Lunar New Year celebrations.

We invite parents and guardians to attend our fortnightly community assemblies in Sapphire community. Our community assemblies will be an opportunity for students to have share time in front of a special audience and be presented with awards.

5/6

The 5/6 students and teachers have had a fantastic start to 2019, with all students returning eager and ready to learn after a well-deserved break. This year in 5/6 we have 3 different communities made up of two teachers and an educational support staff member.

In Coral we have Courtney Merryfull, Heather Marshall and Sue O’Connell. In Onyx we have Stewart Spencer, Sarah McLoughlin and Marcia Firman. In Turquoise we have Ainsley Smith, James Headlam and Kaye Canning.

All of the 5/6 students have spent the first four weeks of school getting to know each other, their communities and teachers. All students have participated in activities investigating the expectations of students whilst at school and assisted in setting up friendly and inviting learning environments.

Students have started interschool sport with great enthusiasm and excitement, with many students labelling these sessions the ‘highlight of their week’. Students are participating in sports such as  tee-ball, cricket, hot shots tennis, basketball, volleystars and hockey. The highlights of this first term of interschool sport will be the practice days against Bellbridge Primary School that are coming up in weeks 5 and 6 and then the Gala Day when some students will get to compete against a number of different local schools.

General Reminders:

  • For Grade 6 students there will be another order of Grade 6 jumpers being placed in the coming weeks for those students who missed out on the first round.
  • Please remember to label your child’s belongings as we already have a collection of lost property.
  • Hats need to be worn in Term 1. These need to be sun smart hats (caps are not sun smart hats).
  • Students should be bringing home their communication diary each night to record their reading. It needs to be signed by a parent at the end of the week. Please see your child’s community teacher for the specific details of this requirement.
  • If you have any questions regarding any other community issues or concern, please speak to your child’s community teachers.

The 5/6 team are really excited for a fantastic year of learning, fun and activities with all of the grade 5 and 6 students. We can’t wait to see what amazing things the students can achieve together!
