SRC Disabilities Week

"Watch out, McClelland, as the SRC present this month’s upcoming event! From the 27th to the 31st of May, they will be hosting an event they’ve been working on for quite a while; McClelland’s Disability Week!

Activities are designed to give awareness to common disabilities such as Autism, Asthma, Mental Health, Deafness and Vision Impairment.

The SRC has prepared a whole week dedicated to shine a light on these topics to the school and be a voice for many who can’t speak up for themselves. A whole week worked on solely by the Student Representative Council to share facts and experiences. Every day has a lunchtime activity for students!

The week begins with the condition, Autism. Monday May 27th will be hosted by our leaders Cody C, Caitlin M, Sienna R and Sam G.

On Tuesday, May 28th, we have Asthma Awareness, which has been taken over by Alex G, Dayna C, Kane R and Bella D.

Following that, Caitlyn T, Ashleigh H, Hannah D, Isabella T and Eana D shall be tackling the sensitive topic of Mental Health. At lunchtime, they plan to host a meditation session in W5 which will help students relax midway through the week, while also spreading knowledge about Mental Health, especially for students.

Continuing on Disability week, DJ M, Dylan, Reece S and Angus A will be taking on Thursday with the topic, Deafness.

And finally, wrapping up Disability Week on Friday the 31st, Vision Impairment will be presented to the students by Vivone S, Sarah K, Lachlan D and Jim D.

There’ll be events open for all every day from the 27th to the 31st.

The SRC will be notifying students using Compass, the SRC notice board and advertising posters. The SRC has worked immensely hard for this and sincerely hope our plans prevail to give these disabilities the attention that they deserve."
