RMIT visit for interested Year 11 and 12 VCE students on 15th May

The visit involved a 30 minute presentation which provided information on  RMIT’s range of study options, pathways, work experience, global opportunities and the diversity of campus life. Following the presentation, the students formed groups and participated in the ‘RMIT City Campus Challenge’. This is a 20 minute challenge where students get to see what it’s like around the city campus. Students then had an opportunity to ask specific questions on courses. The group of twenty students then went for an independent tour of the business building. A number of students came away with the feeling that this was the University for them and are now very clear on pathways to their desired course.

Presentation Ball

On Friday the April 26, twenty eight senior students were presented at the College’s Presentation Ball.  The students were presented to Mr Amadeo Ferra and Ms Karin Miller. The event took place at the Grand on Cathies Lane in Wantirna. After students were presented, they then gave their 20 minute dance presentation which they had been rehearsing for ten sessions. Students then had the opportunity to invite a special person to the floor for a slow dance. The remainder of the night was spent dancing to DJ Cookie. DJ Cookie held a limbo competition and this was won by Alyssa Parker in Year 11.  On behalf of the presentation set, we would like to give a special thanks to Good Look Dance, Glen and Radmilla Foote, Glen McCulloch Photography, Ms Andrews, Sarah and Caitlin – our College Captains- and to all of those who helped out behind the scenes. Without your dedication and support our night wouldn’t have been the same.

Celebrating IDAHOBIT day with Pride Squad 17th

What is IDAHOBIT day?

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia & Transphobia. Launched in 2004 to celebrate LGBTIQ people globally. Today, we use IDAHOBIT on May 17 to champion inclusion and build a better world for the LGBTIQ community.

The Pride squad this year decided to celebrate IDAHOBIT day as a group. The day started with breakfast together, followed by a Rainbow flag raising ceremony. Students then went to the kitchens where we made a selection of rainbow baked products for morning tea followed by Pin the horn on the Unicorn and seeing how many skittles they could pick up with chopsticks in 2 minutes. Over to the art rooms where Mrs Scott demonstrated tie dying to the students who then tie dyed their T shirt or fabric. Some students also did some mindfulness colouring. This was then followed by lunch together and a viewing of the movie of Love Simon.

TRAG

TRAG offers educational presentations designed to promote road safety and to end preventable road trauma for the next generation of young drivers.

Who we are Teenagers Road Accident Group (TRAG) has been providing road trauma presentations to Secondary Schools on and around the Mornington Peninsula and South East Melbourne since 1999. TRAG is widely acknowledged as an integral part of the local resources to reduce incidences of road trauma in the 15-25 age group, the most vulnerable age group in our community. Our presenters are a combination of Emergency Services (Victoria Police, CFA, Ambulance Victoria, SES), victims of road trauma and family members who have lost loved ones through road trauma. All of our presenters volunteer their time and their personal stories in the hope of reducing the number of young people killed or injured through road trauma in our community.

Topics covered in the presentations:

• The impact of road trauma – on yourself and others

• The aspects of life that can be affected by road trauma

• Safe driving practices and decision making

• A focus on making good choices and the message Drive4Life

McClelland College Year 12 VCE students will be attending the TRAG presentation on Tuesday 25 June, 9.30 -11.15pm. If there are any concerns about your student attending this event. Please contact Robyn Andrews or Dylan Johnson Turner.
