Edmund Rice Whole School Mass

On Thursday and Friday 4 and 5 May, all students at McCarthy celebrated the feast of Blessed Edmund Rice over two days at St Nicholas’ Church. These celebrations were prayerfully led by Fr Joe and our choral under the leadership of Miss Katherine Harvey and Mr Tim Godden. During his homily, Fr Joe urged the students to ‘stay connected to the vine’ through constant prayer and the Eucharist. On behalf of all at McCarthy, I would like to thank Fr Joe, Miss Harvey and Mr Godden for their ongoing concern, desire and effort, which make our Eucharistic celebrations prayerful and meaningful community events.

Year 12 Twilight Retreat

On Wednesday 10 May, forty-nine Year 12 students attended a second voluntary twilight retreat. Sixteen staff assisted with the retreat activities, running icebreaker games and giving personal testimonies about God’s presence in their life.  The students were introduced to the PUSH idea ‘Pray Until Something Happens’ and as well were given a taste of Karl Rahner’s theology, ‘the magnetism of mystery’. At the conclusion of the retreat, Mrs O’Neill led the students in a thirty minute Ignatian Examen reflection prayer.

I would like to extend my gratitude to the teachers who assisted with the retreat, their presence and contribution is testimony to the importance we give to our students’ faith formation.
