Principal's Report

iNewsletter
Welcome to the new Newsletter for McCarthy Catholic College! As a measure of our ongoing search to improve the quality of communication to our families and potential new enrolments, the iNewsletter provides for seamless viewing on any form of electronic device, particularly smartphones. We trust that families find the new interface more user-friendly so that key items such as important messages, student success and upcoming events are more easily communicated and presented in an attractive manner. We are happy to hear your feedback!
Athletics Carnival
At the time of writing we are preparing for the annual Inter-house Athletics Carnival to be held on Thursday May 18 (weather permitting) Once again, this day offers an opportunity for students to engage in a great community-building event whereby students can contribute simply by participating or they can choose to excel in front of their peers on the big stage. I thank the staff for their commitment to the prior organisation and smooth running of the day, particularly Mr Feltrin, Mrs Jones, Mr Davy and Mr McKenzie.
Student Social
Great fun was had by all last Thursday night at the first Student Social for 2017. While a ‘Bogan’ theme and a cool night combined very well to reduce the complicated decision of what to wear, many students commented about the increased numbers, great music and good times that they had with their friends. I commend the Student Leadership Council for their hard work behind the scenes in setting up and working in the canteen on the night. We look forward to another fun night in Term 3!
Welcome
We welcome Kyle (Year 7) and Nicholas Minton (Year 9) to the McCarthy community.
Stronger HSC Standards - NESA updates
The NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) are providing updates to the community and schools on a fortnightly basis with regards to the Stronger HSC Standards. These stronger standards come into effect with the changes to several Stage 6 in 2018 and by the requirement of students to be able to demonstrate a minimum standard in literacy and numeracy based on Year 9 NAPLAN scores. Students who have not demonstrated this minimum standard in their Year 9 NAPLAN assessments will be provided with opportunities to resit literacy and numeracy testing in two testing periods in Year 10, 11 or 12 as required. Once students have demonstrated the standard they do not need to complete further testing.
If you are interested in keeping abreast of these changes that you may like to bookmark the following webpage: http://educationstandards.nsw.edu.au/wps/portal/nesa/about/initiatives/stronger-hsc-standards/minimum-HSC-standard
May your God go with you.
