Magis
Congratulations to the Jesuit debating team which represented the College at the National Championships in Melbourne in the holidays, and warmest thanks to Ms Farley who went with the team after I ended up in hospital on the last day of term. Congratulations to Rory Hewson on making the Australian team for the second year running!
Term 3 began with the Magis Mass. Warmest thanks to students who took lead roles in the Mass, and to all Magis and Altiora students and parents who attended. Term highlights include many important gifted and talented events with three of our teams competing in the World Scholar’s Cup Global round in Sydney, the Year 7’s competing in WADL finals, seniors in the next round of Mock Trials, and of course the Tournament of Minds and Optiminds teams preparing for the regional finals in August. In addition there is the John XXIII Chess Championship, and Magis academic Challenges in Creativity and General Academic Knowledge. The current Leaderboard for the Magis Champion at each year group is attached below, whilst the Magis term three calendar has been emailed to students.
There has been a good response for the Magis Camp at Point Walter on 9 & 10 August, but there are still a few places available, so students are reminded to email me and get a camp form from the Magis office if you are interested. It should be a great event.
Finally a reminder of payments now due or overdue for those involved in the Space Camp 2020, the World Scholar’s Cup Global round in Sydney or the Magis Camp. Best wishes to all students for a happy and successful third term.
