Connecting with our sister schools
Luckily, we have two sister schools: Nakao Elementary School in Yokohama City and Minowa Elementary School in Nabari City, Japan. We have been exchanging our learnings including posters, projects, and showing what we do at Kingswood through photos and video clips.
This term, Years 5 and 6 students have made Graduation message cards for both of our sister schools, to celebrate their Year 6 Graduation. (The Japanese school year starts in April and finishes in March). Our students used Japanese sentences to write messages and created wonderful cards for their Year 6 graduates. The students and teachers from our sister schools were pleased to receive the cards.
Years 5 and 6 students connected to a live video call session with Nakao Elementary School on Skype this term.
On the day of the video call, after greeting students from Nakao Elementary school, our students exchanged some information about school life, including their names, school uniforms, school bags, pencil cases, etc.
We also played a bingo game together using numbers in the language we have been learning. We used numbers in Japanese and the students from Nakao Elementary School used numbers in English.
We only had 45 minutes for the video call session. I received an email from a teacher from Nakao Elementary School and it says ‘The students really enjoyed talking to our Year 5s and 6s.’
We will continue to work with our sister schools in 2023.
