Principal's Report - Mr Pitt
Dear Parents/ Carers,
BIKE VISITS WITH MR PITT
It was great to be back in classrooms talking to children about their learning. This week I visited 3 Hamilton Island and 6 Butterleaf.
3 HAMILTON ISLAND – On Wednesday I visited 3H during a NAPLAN reading lesson. Children were able to successfully read the text and answer the questions. Miss Huynh used the whiteboard to help children unpack some of the answers. Some of the questions were very tricky but everyone tried super-hard with the answers. At the end of the lesson I reminded the children of the importance of reading the whole text and always ask yourself what is the meaning of the text. I enjoyed my visit to 3H. A great lesson boys and girls!
6 BUTTERLEAF – On Tuesday morning I was lucky enough to work with 6B before splitting them to other classes for the morning session. After marking the roll, children formed small groups to play 3 rounds of Scattergories. Before we commenced, it was important that each group knew the rules of the game. The subject headings were boy’s name, girl’s name, food and place. Miss Susan and I were impressed to see everyone become involved and do their best to finish each round first. I liked how groups tried really hard to come up with unique choices to ensure they could score points. I had a great time visiting – thanks 6B!

MEET THE TEACHER AFTERNOON
Thank you to the families who attended our Meet the Teacher days last week. I am sure you found out lots more about the programs we have at school as well as having a brief chat with your child’s teacher—this is an important start to the new year and allows us to share with our community how the children are known, valued and cared for (we hope the lollies were yummy too!) A big thank you to the teachers as well for staying back for the session.
INDUCTION ASSEMBLY
This Friday we have a special Assembly where we induct our School Leaders, SRC, House Captains, Vice Captains and Librarians for 2023. These roles are very important, we acknowledge this by inviting parents to attend.
NAPLAN ONLINE
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will commence for all students in Years 3 and 5 in all government and non-government schools commencing in Week 8. I have included the organisation of the assessments in this edition of the newsletter. There is a Public Demonstration site that can be accessed from home. We encourage you to allow your child/ren to practice at home so that they are confident in using the online functions and are familiar with the question types.

Students may be exempt from NAPLAN tests if they:
- are newly arrived in Australia (less than one year before the test) and with a language background other than English, or
- have significant intellectual disability and/ or significant co-existing conditions which severely limit their capacity to participate in the tests.
All other students are expected to participate in the tests. I thank Ms Batar, Mrs Rosic and the NAPLAN team for their organisation of the program.
REPEATED: STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK
All adults on site will be healthy and ready to work and we expect the same from our children and their families. If children are unwell at school, you or your nominated emergency contact will need to collect them immediately. Please make sure your contact details are up to date. Check out the link below.

National Parks Incursion
On Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 February, we were lucky enough to have the Georges River Environmental Education Centre come and visit Fairvale Public School.
Students were able to participate in a variety of activities to support learning around the theme of National Parks. Each session was designed for each stage of learning from Kindergarten to Year 6. Some of the activities included viewing an aerial video of Dharawal National Park, invertebrate searches, bird investigations and a blue-tongue lizard also came along for a visit.
We hope our students enjoyed this experience. A big thank you to Mr Pitt for ensuring all our students attended this incursion.
