Read and Write - Assistive Technology 

Last week, the teachers had professional development on the literacy support tool - Read&Write. This is an extension that will be added to the students' devices and offers help for everyday tasks like reading text out loud, understanding unfamiliar words and proofing written work.  

The extension will appear as a toolbar on the screen (see below) and students will be taught how to use the extension with their teachers. There are a few technical things that we need to do and as soon as this is done we will begin using the toolbar. 

NAPLAN 

Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who completed the NAPLAN tests last week. All students sat four tests - writing, reading, conventions of language and mathematics. NAPLAN online tests are tailored or adaptive. Students at each level start with a similar set of questions. Depending on each student's answer, the next set of questions may be easier or more difficult, giving students greater opportunity to demonstrate what they know. This gives teachers a deeper understanding and insight into students strengths and areas for development. This is the first year the tests have been sat in March, with the reasoning being that parents and schools will receive student results sooner to help inform teaching and learning.
