Curriculum

WOW! Officially a week left of our first term of Foundation together in 2023! The last 10 weeks have absolutely flown and have been filled with an incredible amount of learning, laughter and love. A highlight for the students has of course been our numerous Guided Inquiry ‘Community’ incursions as well as PMP, learning our 26 alphabet codes, reading groups, making graphs and our many maths games!

Maths

We spent the week learning about Measurement in Maths this week. Students compared the length and size of different objects, ordering them from shortest to longest. It was fantastic to hear students using their key words to describe their findings! Who is the tallest in your family? How could you compare the height of the people in your family using materials, measuring tapes or a height chart?

Literacy

After being introduced to the first 26 alphabet codes throughout Term 1, we spent Week 10 focusing on the sounds that our vowels can make. Can you remember how many vowels there are? Do you know all of the sounds our vowels make? Students have been excited to share their learning on Seesaw this week and were very proud of their Reading portfolios. We have been working hard to make CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Check it out on Seesaw!

Guided Inquiry

What a huge week of teamwork and creation in Foundation! Students have worked in small teams to create Classroom Communities after meeting and spending time with members of our community of the past few weeks. We have seen cutting, building, taping and organising in preparation for our showcase on Monday.

Wellbeing

In Foundation we have had a focus on Character Strengths. Creativity has been important during Guided Inquiry and as we have been busy making an Easter Hat. All students have had a chance to make an Easter Hat at school, but we would encourage you to work together at home to create an Easter Hat at home ready for our parade on Thursday!

Next week is looking busy! Let’s go through our calendar:

Monday 3rd April

We will be finalising our Classroom Communities on Monday ready for our Guided Inquiry Showcase at 2.40pm. Parents are all welcome and encouraged to visit their child in the junior corridor from 2.40pm to view some of learning throughout Term 1. Shortly after, we will move into our Classroom Communities where you can visit and play in the important places, meeting the important community members of FB, FK and FH.

Tuesday 4th April

Foundation students will have the opportunity to visit the 5/6 Guided Inquiry Showcase and Hot Cross Bun orders will be delivered.

Wednesday 5th April

Our morning will begin with our Year 5 buddies - another highlight from Term 1! The students are excited to spend more time together.

Thursday 6th April

Family Breakfast: you will have received information about our family breakfast in your child’s orange folder (if you have misplaced this notice, please visit the office). We are incredibly grateful for all of your RSVPs and can’t wait to see you on Thursday morning from 7.30am.

Whole School Assembly: to mark the end of Term 1, we will have a whole school assembly beginning at 9am on the oval (weather permitting).

Easter Hat Parade: directly after the assembly, students will showcase their creativity by displaying their Easter Hats in a whole school parade! Stick around to celebrate their unique creations.

Early Dismissal: students will be dismissed at 2.30pm. Please collect your child from the junior playground at 2.30pm.

Enjoy a restful weekend!

Student Voice

In Guided Inquiry students have been learning to use Teamwork. Together we brainstormed what successful teamwork might look like:

  • We can share materials
  • We can help each other
  • We can ask for help
  • We can listen to our team members' ideas
  • We can build things together
