Inquiry Centre

Curriculum
What a week in the Inquiry Centre! Thank you to all families who came and met with us last week during 3 Way Conferences. It was lovely to hear our students talk about their learning and share their future goals.
This week in Writing, students were busy writing to inform an audience. We have been working very hard in Guided Inquiry to create our very own towns, so the 1/2 students have been creating a brochure to inform people all about their wonderful towns and what services they include. The fun didn’t stop there, this week we were also very excited to head on another excursion adventure. First we had to make different documents for us to get ready for our plane trip. Students created passports, tickets and a packing checklist, before heading onto the plane ‘Pleasant Airlines’. When we landed the Inquiry Centre found that they had arrived at the happiest place on earth Disneyland! After we virtually explored Disneyland, students wrote a detailed recount to inform an audience about what they experienced on their adventure. The excitement levels were very high and this showed in the incredible writing pieces created.
In Reading, students spent the week focusing on the skill of summarising. They were immersed in different text formats and had to determine and retell the important parts of each text. Throughout the week we also practised reading with fluency. Students worked hard to identify different punctuation in a text and from there, had to reflect on how to change their voice when they were reading. For example, if you see a full stop we stop and take a breath, when we see an exclamation mark we use a louder voice and then stop. When we see a question mark, our voice goes up and we stop. Finally when we see talking marks we slide into another voice, this may show the different emotions of a character. This is something we encourage all students to be practising when reading at home.
The Inquiry Centre spent the week focusing on telling the time during Maths sessions. We spent a lot of time (no pun intended) working with partners to make and read both analogue and digital times. Students also focused on what events they would be involved in at particular parts of the day, such as morning, afternoon and night. Reading the time can be tricky, however it is a great one to be able to be able to practise at home. This isn’t limited to reading a clock, however it can also be talking about the times you are doing particular tasks or going to events with your child. These events may be; what times they wake up, eat breakfast, go to basketball practice and go to bed.
Be sure to check out Seesaw soon to listen to your child's reading practising fluency as well as their telling the time portfolio.
Next week is the last week of school for Term 1, we have an exciting week planned for our students, including decorating special biscuits to celebrate. If your child has any allergies or intolerance's please let your classroom teacher know.
As it is the last week of term, there will be no no assembly held on Monday as it will be changed to the last day of school, Thursday 6th of April at 9:00am on the oval (if weather permits). Thursday morning will be full of celebration as we will also be holding the Family Breakfast in the courtyard from 7:30am-8:30am. The Easter raffle will be drawn at the end of the Family Breakfast. After the whole school assembly the annual Easter Hat Parade will commence at 9:30am.
