Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Thank you to everyone who participated in this week's Parent Teacher interviews.   If for any reason, you were unable to make an appointment, please contact your child's teacher to arrange an alternate time.

Thank you also to all those families who have finalised their curriculum contribution payment or have chosen to make regular payments through a payment plan.  As the bills for supplied learning materials continue to pour in, your support in making these payments as soon as possible is greatly appreciated!  If you haven't yet finalised your payments or arranged a plan, please contact the office.

This year, the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be held from Wednesday 15th March to 27th March, for students in Years 3 and 5.  As all students in Years 3 and 5 are expected to participate, parents who do not wish for your child to participate, are asked to please contact the office in writing by Friday 10th March, to request consent for withdrawal or exemption.

Our new SRC have made a great start to the year with the installation of 'Idea Boxes' for all of the classrooms.  One of the activities already on the agenda is 'Ride to School Day' on March 24th.  As well as encouraging everyone to use active travel, we will also be having a casual dress day to raise money towards the purchase and upgrade of sports equipment. More information about Ride to School will be provided next week.

HEADLICE ALERT!  Please help us to keep headlice at bay by making sure that all long hair is tied up.  Regular checking for headlice is also recommended.

Over the last year,  the SRC and our school community has helped recycle many shoes, keeping them out of landfill.  While we will not be continuing to provide a drop-off point at the school this year, families can still continue to recycle their old shoes by dropping them off  at one of five locations in Albury Wodonga.

Well done to all students who participated in yesterday's Regional Swimming final, on their achievement and team spirit.  The teams and individual swims proved to be really competitive and there was a great sense of comradery among the students.  Congratulations to Mack who placed 2nd in Butterfly and all three relay teams who each placed 4th!

February must have been a big month for the tooth fairy, with several teeth appearing at the office every week.  Given the number that have been wobbled at unusual angles, for entertainment in the lineup, I'm sure there are still more to come! Yesterday provided a double act, with two teeth coming out simultaneously and one not long after!

Please contact Amanda and Joy if you have some fundraising ideas or time to help out!

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE HAD A CHANGE OF DATE FOR OUR ATHETICS!  Due to a clash in dates we will now be hosting the Year 3-6 Cluster Athletics on Monday 3rd of April.  We will need parents to assist with events and also the BBQ.  Please add this date to your calendar and let the office know if you will be available to help out.

Tomorrow is Schools Clean Up Australia Day! Our older students will be helping to clean up rubbish around the pondage while our younger students will be helping to clean up around the school.  Many thanks to Mel for her coordination of these activities and to all members of our school community for working together to look after our environment!

This week Kahn has also been busy tidying up our grounds to help keep our gardens looking good.  The olive tree looks amazing!

Families are asked to note that there will be no school on Monday 13th (public holiday) and Tuesday 14th March (Whole School Professional Practice Day).  OSHC will be running on Tuesday 14th March for families requiring this support.  Classes will resume for all students in Prep - 6 on Wednesday 15th March.
