Extension Writing with Mrs Abrey

In extension writing sessions we have been focusing on the 'how' actions and the language that describes how a character moves helps the reader understand the way a character feels and helps add to the mood and setting.  We have been experimenting with sentence starters and punctuation to see how alterations can change the pace of the narrative.  Here are a few working examples:

As moonlight sparkled overhead, the girls ventured deeper into the old, haunted, abandoned house. Frightened by the faint breeze that blew through the shattered windows, they knew now that there was no turning back. Georgia H 5P

The journey was impossible: we navigated ourselves through a dark, rocky maze of caves, slashed through the long thorny vines while scary creatures tried to stop us, and ran rapidly through the deadly booby traps left in a stone temple. Audrey B 5P

Running through the playground, the girl tripped over a sharp rock. The blood streamed out like a river flowing down her knee. Her friends got her a tissue and she carefully got up and hobbled to the closest taps. After what felt like forever, she finally finished washing her knee. Caitlyn S 5P

The journey was impossible: we had viciously attacked the spiky thorns that pricked us with their poisonous touch, then the never ending swirling trail made us lightheaded with the dizziness. George N 5P

Grade 3 Writing with Mrs Barry

Our amazing Grade 3 students have been working on improving their writing by adding detail and expressive language. Please see the fantastic work of some of our students below.

The plane landed with a four bounce pull up. Exiting the plane took what felt like forever. Max walked towards the gate, fear pulsing its way through his heart. Nervous sweat dripped from his forehead. His short, brown hair was now a wet mess. He stuffed his hands in the pockets of his jacket to stop them from nervously shaking. Looking over his shoulder, he saw his dad encouraging him, he had to get to the luggage carousel to meet his sisters. Seeing them for the first time in eleven years was taking his breath away. Written by Max, Toni, Shriya, Willow & Aiden – 3D

Milo crashed down, falling headfirst onto the floor. He was trying so desperately to get his slobbery mouth to the tasty meat! He scratched the surface of the floorboards with his sharp paws as he scurried. Willow - 3K

CRACK! Bolts of lightning lit up the sky in the distance. The growl of thunder was like the biggest monster roaring. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Again, lightning struck. This time with a massive flash of light. The street glowed as if it were sunset in Autumn. Cruz – 3K

Visual Arts Update

Please refer to the Visual Arts Blog to see what has been happening in Art over recent weeks. http://tppsspecialists.weebly.com

Outside the Art room currently there is a collaborative installation of student work from Grades 1 - 6 inclusive. The students were inspired by Jim Dine and have used various mediums and materials to create their own heart artwork. The pieces are not attached to the wall at the bottom, so that they are able to sway in the breeze, symbolizing how the love surrounds us at Templestowe Park.
