school life

news from the foundies

This term, our newest little members of BNWPS have been learning about themselves and our school community. This week, we met someone who helps to keep our community safe. Acting Sargent Jeff Bell came and talked to us about his job as a Brunswick police officer. While he was here, he locked up Larissa and threw away the key! He tried to take her away in the police car but decided that she needed to stay at school with the Foundies.

We learnt 3 things to help keep us safe.

- Wear your seatbelt!

- Don't let your parents use their mobile phone while driving!

- Wear your helmet while you are on a bike or scooter

coronavirus update

The situation regarding coronavirus has continued to evolve, however, the updates do not impact our school community at this stage.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer issued updated advice last night, that overseas school excursions should cease, except to New Zealand and Canada. In last week's newsletter, there was information about the potential for an international camp next year; we will continue to investigate the viability of this option as restrictions are expected to lift well before then.

The Commonwealth Government also updated travel restrictions this week. The extension to existing travel restrictions now applies to visitors from South Korea, Iran, and mainland China. Visitors who are not Australian citizens or permanent residents, or their dependents will not be allowed entry into Australia. The Commonwealth Government has also advised that visitors from Italy will also be subject to enhanced health screening and temperature testing arrangements.

The Department of Education continues to work with health authorities and is providing schools with regular updates on safety precautions.

If you have any questions about Coronavirus or your health, please speak to your GP.

news from NF

Our school goal regarding sustainable practices this year is waste reduction.

As part of our Investigations learning and 'Clean Up Australia Day' discussions - a national event held the first Sunday of March each year - Unit NF looked at nude food as a way of reducing waste in the classroom.

Bringing nude food to school helps look after the environment by lessening the amount of waste going to landfill. A significant amount of rubbish that ends up in landfills is single-use plastic from the packaging of individually wrapped foods.

Our classroom challenge is healthy zero waste lunch boxes. We have adopted the 'W.O.W. - Wipe Out Waste - from our school lunchboxes' attitude. We took pictures of our lunchboxes. We talked about the importance of using reusable containers and reusable beeswax wraps / reusable sandwich pouches to replace, for instance, plastic cling wrap. We also made posters out of scrap paper to promote the nude food message to our school community.

Join us & the W.O.W factor by trying to reduce the amount of waste we make at school.
