Principal's Report

Enrolments

Enrolments are now open for 2021 and it would be great to start receiving your enrolment forms for students beginning in Foundation (or at other levels next year). The sooner we receive enrolments, the sooner we can begin planning for next year. Please find the enrolment form below and it can be sent to the school via post (Kalinda Primary School, 39-49 Kalinda Rd, Ringwood 3134) or by email to kalinda.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

For any new families to the school please contact the school via email kalinda.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au or phone 9876-3289 and we will send you information about the school and organise a 1-on-1 video conference with you.

Remote Learning - a big challenge and a great opportunity

Firstly, I would like to give a huge thank you to all of the students, parents and staff for your amazingly resilient and positive attitude towards remote learning in this unprecedented time for schools and the world at large. Through working together you are making remote learning possible and the positive benefits that will come from this new way of learning will remain long after we are through this pandemic.

Students have done a great job getting on with the work that is set for them, working very independently and managing your own time and effort to achieve great learning through these first few weeks of school. Well done!

Parents are doing an incredible job managing households, work commitments and supporting your children's learning. We have seen so many of you manage this impossible task incredibly successfully and I thank you so much for this. Please be kind to yourself throughout this time, we know that it is a challenging task and you need to adjust learning expectations for you children based on your own family's circumstances. Please see Lauren's Assistant Principal Report for some great advice on this.

I know that many families in our community have been impacted greatly by coronavirus, in particular the economic impact on families has been immense. As a school we will be doing everything we can to support families who are doing it tough during this time. Please see the Welfare and Financial Assistance pages in the Newsletter for links to more resources that can be of support.

Finally, I cannot praise our staff highly enough for their quick response to this ever changing learning environment. It is a steep learning curve for many and we are succeeding through fantastic teamwork between our staff members. Collaborating to solve problems and supporting our colleagues is the way we are making this a successful time.

A silver-lining to this situation is the huge growth in skills for students, parents and staff. Students are developing independent learning skills that will set them up as great life long learners in Secondary School and beyond. Parents have the opportunity to learn more about how their children learn and understand the curriculum. And our staff have the opportunity to greatly increase their skills in utilising technology as part of their teaching practices.

When school eventually returns to 'normal' we want to hold on to the improvements that have come from this situation so that student learning will be better than ever.

We are kind. We are resilient. We are respectful.
