Winter Sport Update

It is with disappointment I announce, the round of fixtures organised to play against Trinity Grammar for the Black and Green Shield on Saturday 27 June has been cancelled.

An ISA Heads of Sport meeting this week will hopefully provide some direction of where the winter season is heading. Please watch this space for more information.

In the meantime, we will continue with Winter Sport trials as per schedule. Holiday fixtures will be announced next week.

The “New” Football Jersey

I am pleased to inform parents and boys that the College has developed/produced a new Football jersey in time for the upcoming Football season. The new jersey modelled by Alexander Pizzinga of Year 11 will be worn by members of the 2nd XI and Junior School teams in 2020. In keeping with tradition, the 2nd XI jersey will be the only jersey other than the 1st XI that features numbers on the back.

The jersey can be purchased from the Uniform Shop as of this week. I would encourage any boy playing Football in Year 6 to hold on to their yellow jersey from last season so that it can be worn at training/trials and more importantly when we have SPC teams scheduled to play against each other on a Saturday.

Please note that this new jersey will be worn by the remainder of our Senior School teams in 2021.

Below are details relating to the fabric and durability of the jersey:

Polylock is a lightweight, smooth surface finish fabric with moisture wicking properties. Ideal for training and non-contact on-field kit, Polylock is made from 100% polyester interlock and weighted at 140gsm.

In terms of quality control, Dynasty Sport ensures fabric quality, garment construction, embellishments and all logos all pass through a strict quality control testing process ensuring all items meet the requirements before dispatch. They also ensure quality control batch testing is undertaken for all fabrics to ensure consistency takes place with all orders. This covers all areas of fabric such as

  • Colour matching, weight testing, composition
  • Reporting and texture

They also test for:

  • General fabric performance
  • Burst strength
  • Wicking test
  • Snagging test
  • Pilling test
  • Colour fastness
  • Shrinkage

It is hoped that the boys will like and appreciate the opportunity to represent the College in this new predominantly black jersey.

Training – Off Site Protocol

Given the large number of summer and winter sports teams currently representing the College, certain teams have been allocated training sessions at nearby Hudson and Airey Parks and the Marie Bashir School Playing Field/Basketball Court in Albert Road. In order to ensure boys make their way to and from the grounds safely they are instructed to meet with their coaches at 3.25pm so that they are supervised along the journey.

Ordinarily, boys making the return trip to school will leave their school bag at the College for the duration of the training session. I would ask you to remind boys that they should take their valuables, such wallets and phones with them or leave them in their secured lockers. Clearly, boys being picked up at these grounds will need to take their school bags with them.

Parents wishing to pick up their son/s from the above-mentioned playing fields may do so once they have reported to the relevant Coach at 4.50pm at which point teams will commence their return trip to the College. Please note that under no circumstance will a boy be permitted to remain at the training field in order to wait for his parent/s. Furthermore, students are not permitted to drive to and from these venues on training days.

In some instances, parents may wish for their sons to be left at the venue in order to attend their outside training commitments. In order for that to occur, parents will need to inform the relevant MIC and Coach prior to the training session, who will be at the venue to assume the supervisory responsibility for their son/s from 4.50pm onwards.

The College’s duty of care ceases at either 4.50pm when the boys are handed over to the parent and/or approved adult or when the boys return to the College Campus at approximately 5.00pm.
