Attendance

As we commence Term 3 a reminder of the procedures in relation to notifying the College of student absences. All absences [whether for the whole day or a partial absence] must be explained by one of the following methods:

  • a note signed and dated by the parent, or
  • an email from the parent, or
  • a notification via SENTRAL Parent Portal. This is reconciled by the Enrolment Secretary.

Ordinarily, notes should be produced on the first day of return from an absence. If after 5 days, there is no explanation provided by parents/carers via one of these methods a phone call/email will be sent requesting written notification.

If notification is not received prior to 7 school days, the absence will be recorded as Unexplained and Unjustified on the official Attendance Record. This cannot be amended unless approved by the Principal or their delegate. The absence will appear on the student’s semester report.

If the College receives notification after 7 school days, the absence will remain as Unjustified but will be recorded as Explained by the Principal or their delegate.

Students arriving at the College between 8.40am and 8.50am should move directly to their homeroom/class. The homeroom/class teacher should ascertain the reason for the lateness and mark the student partially absent due to lateness on the roll. Parents/carers should provide notification explaining the reason for the lateness.

However, students arriving at the College after 8.50am should report to the Front Office where they will scan their ID card and place a late slip sticker in their diary to indicate the time of arrival.  This slip also indicates the reason for their lateness. Parents/carers also need to provide an explanation for the late arrival.

Founder’s Day 2020

Friday 21 August marks the annual celebration of Founder’s Day. We would like to advise parents/carers of the following:

  • Compulsory attendance by all boys in full College uniform is expected. Boys who are absent on the day will be required to obtain a medical certificate and present it to their homeroom teacher on their first day back
  • Boys are required to attend school at the normal time and they will be dismissed at 2.00pm. Younger boys will be escorted to Strathfield Station by members of the College’s Student Leadership Team
  • Boys will not be required to bring bags/belongings to school on this day.  The exception to this may be competitors in the annual Waterford Mile who can store any clothes in their lockers
  • Boys will be expected to be in attendance for the Founder’s Day Mass, Concert and Waterford Mile
  • Canteen facilities will operate in the morning and during Recess with all menu items being available

Founder’s Day Lunch

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions there will be an alternative lunch arranged for students and staff. We have sourced an external supplier who will provide a lunch pack consisting of:

  • 1 x Wrap (choice of BLAT, Chicken Caesar, Falafel Hummus)
  • 1 x Blueberry Muffin
  • 1 x Bottle of Water
  • 1 x Freddo Frog

A separate email will be sent to parents/carers by early Week 2 providing an ingredients list for each item. If there are any dietary requirements or concerns about the ingredients please contact Mrs Ingrid Viney ingrid.viney@spc.nsw.edu.au or Mr Rob Simpson robert.simpson@spc.nsw.edu.au at the College.

  • Year 12 students will provide their order to their homeroom teacher by Friday 31 July (Week 2)
  • Years 5-11 will provide their order to their homeroom/class teacher on Wednesday 5 August (Week 3)

The orders will be packed into homeroom/class tubs on the morning of Founder’s Day and distributed to students and staff.

Further details regarding the organisation of the day will be provided in future editions of the Especean.
