LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

I hope you all had a relaxing long weekend and enjoy the four day week. It’s a little quieter in the library this week so we’ll be finishing off some projects to create our Reconciliation Week mural which I’m looking forward to sharing with you in the coming weeks. We will also be reading some new books that have recently come into the library. One series I’m excited to show our students is the new ‘Maxi the Lifeguard’ books which I will review below. If your child is a fan of Bondi Rescue, they’ll love these stories.

One of my happiest moments of the past week has been finally able to give to one of our Stage 3 students two Star Wars books he’s been waiting AGES for. He was so excited to receive them and it brought me so much joy to see how excited he was, I hope you enjoy them, Max!

Everyone’s a Reader

One thing that I am passionate about is finding a story, series or a genre that a child wants to read. It always amazes me that some children tell me they’re ‘not a reader’ but will read magazines, comics, manga or even the good, old Guinness World Book of Records. Everyone is a reader, it’s just that not everyone enjoys reading long fictional chapter books. This year one of my professional goals is to expand our collections of things our ‘non-readers’ want to read. We’ve invested in more graphic novels and magazines (Wheels is proving to be really popular) but I’m also asking our students “what do you want to read?” As families, if you have any book/magazine recommendations, I would love to hear them. Please send me an email and I will do my best to source resources that suit your child.

How Can I Help My Child Read?

There are so many reasons why we should encourage our children to read and Scholastic has some great tips for all of us. One of the tips Scholastic gives is to let your child choose what they would like to read. While it’s tempting to buy or borrow things we think our children want to read (this is me!), if we let them choose what they’re interested in, they’re more likely to read it. For more reading tips, visit the Scholastic website.

New Books - Maxi the Lifeguard

Trent Maxwell is better known as ‘Maxi’ the Lifeguard from the TV series ‘Bondi Rescue’. The books follow his adventures as a ‘nipper’ at Buckler Surf Life Saving Club along with his friends Felix and Rachel. We now have the three stories in the library and I’m sure they’ll be really popular with our students. Look out for ‘Maxi the Lifeguard: In Deep Water’,The Stormy Protest’ and ‘Beach Battle’.
