Chaplain’s Spot

Nurture and enjoy your favourite things, and let go of things that are not!

We often hear about Top Ten lists. It might be the top ten movies of all time, or kids books, top ten fears or favourite foods. Thinking about and involving ourselves in our favourite things can be very helpful to our well-being. I wonder what your ‘Top Ten’ activities are.

Here are my Top Ten Favourites for today:

  • Being with my grandchildren and extended family
  • Walking along Dandenong Creek for exercise
  • Listening to music, especially on Spotify
  • Spending time with children as Chaplain at GRPS
  • Singing with our music team at church
  • Being a Wedding and Funeral Celebrant
  • Eating bananas, mushrooms and dark chocolate
  • Watching movies or TV shows on dvd
  • Writing poems or songs to encourage others
  • Wearing fun socks or t/shirts

Here are some things I have had to let go in the past:

  • Disappointment when my parents split up
  • Sadness when my Dad died
  • Worry when I was not working full-time any more
  • Frustration when things don’t go as I planned or expected, like jobs

Actually, I would like to add another favourite … reading. There are plenty of things that I can do that help to make me feel good, and fulfilled. I am blessed. I’d love to hear from parents or students about your favourites. Send me an email to let me know.

Quote of the week: Fix your thoughts on what is true, honourable, right, pure, lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
