Music Matters

Its great to hear the sounds of music at St Pius again as we come back to face-to-face teaching. All instrumental Ensembles are back and we are devising on line performance opportunities. Unfortunately we have received some advice from NSW Health regarding choir rehearsals so we have temporarily suspended face-to-face rehearsals and are looking for on-line ideas to keep singing.

Stock-take of Instruments

You would have received an email regarding school instruments. We are looking to do a stock-take which will include noting the general condition of the instruments. We have given the date of June 10 when we look to have all school instruments in the upstairs Band Room. We need them for a couple of days and they will be available for lessons during the day. If you have any school instrument at home even if your son is not involved in lessons or band please return the instrument by June 10.

Drama Matters

Drama Ensembles

The following Drama Ensembles will commence in Week 8 in the Sarto Centre. I will be keeping in mind all advice and proposals for group and ensemble gatherings in order to keep all students safe.

  • Senior Drama (Years 9-12) Monday
  • Intermediate Drama (Years 7-8) Thursday

Theatre Online

Students have told me how they are missing going on excursions to see live theatre. We usually see at least five shows over the year with different years groups attending school shows and events in the evening. However, the next best thing is the ability to watch performances online.

One of the major industries hit by the Corona Virus around the world has been the arts. Theatres have closed their doors and practitioners lost their jobs. Many outstanding productions have been made available to the wider public and the National Theatre in London has been in the forefront of releasing their archives on YouTube. National Theatre Live is an initiative began many years ago and brings the best of British theatre to cinema screens all over the UK and beyond, from Tokyo to Sydney and San Francisco. With state-of-the-art filming techniques tailored to every play, close-ups capture every flicker of emotion and sweeping wide shots take in the whole of the stage.

This week you will be able to catch Gillian Anderson in Tennessee Williams’ outstanding play A Streetcar Named Desire. The shows change every Friday evening (UK time) and are online for one week.
