For Everything there is a Season

Today marks forty days since we celebrated the Resurrection on Easter Sunday. It goes without saying that, in today’s world, these forty days have been trying and have left people in a state of uncertainty. As we begin to emerge from our imposed isolation our experiences align with the Early Church’s period of isolation from the world. In the Church’s liturgical calendar, today celebrates the Feast of the Ascension and is closely followed ten days later with the Feast of Pentecost. It is the time in which Christ leaves his followers and ascends to His Father. The Ascension does not mark the end of Jesus' relationship with His followers but the beginning of a new way of His relating to the world - in and through His Church.

Pentecost is commonly referred to as the beginning of the Church through the coming of the Holy Spirit. That Spirit makes it possible for us to live differently - beginning right now. Like for the first apostles it is at work within us, transforming us more and more creating us into God’s Image and Likeness.

It is a timely reminder as we deal with this current global event that we continue to have at the forefront of our minds how we can be more to and for others. This is perfectly expressed in a quote commonly attributed to St Francis of Assisi, ‘Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary’.

Project Compassion Boxes

Earlier this year during Lent we were supporting CARITAS Australia through their Project Compassion campaign. Boxes can still be returned to the College Office in the next two weeks or donations can be made directly to CARITAS Australia.
