VCE Update
We have finally made it to the end of the most interesting school term ever. In normal circumstances VCE students would have begun Units 2 and 4 two weeks ago, however with the extension to VCE these units will begin on the first day of next term.
Our students have proven to be remarkably resilient and have coped well with the uncertainty created by remote learning. The vast majority of our students continued to make progress over the remote period and have since consolidated their learning further. The vast majority of SACs have been completed with only a couple being held over till next term.
The last two week have seen teachers finalising assessments and have been liaising with the sub school team to ensure that students are able to access the support they need. For some students this has meant additional study whilst others have been reflecting on their Pathways plans.
We know the final weeks of a VCE unit are tough and students are looking forward to a bit of a break. However it is important for students to keep their eye on the ball over the holidays. Year 12 students should take this as an opportunity to consolidate their learning and to start preparing revision notes for the exams at the end of the year. Both year 11 and 12 students should be making a start on the next units of study. Pre-reading, summary questions, glossary work and additional research are all great strategies.
Year 12 VCE Results
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and the Department of Education have announced that this year our year 12 students will receive their results on December 30. There will be a change of preference day for tertiary offer on January 4.
A small team of staff have volunteered to come in to the College over this period of time to provide advice and assistance to students who are considering changing their preferences. This team will be led by Mr Newnham. Further information about this process will be made available closer to the date.
VCAL Information Night
Late this term we ran our VCAL Information Night for families. Due to current world circumstances this had to be an online meeting. Although we were a little dubious to begin with the app stood up well and this proved an effective way to meet.
About 35 families met with us to learn about the course from our current students and the staff who teach it. Ms Lobriza, Mr Burleigh and Ms King all talked about the different approaches to teaching and how VCAL would differ from VCE, or even from year 12.
Our VCAL students did us proud. One of the key skills they work on throughout the course is oracy (public speaking) and this was clearly evident. We would like to thank the following students: Brooke Delaney, Brodie Bartlett, Jazz Marshall and Jasmine Birdy. Straight from the horse's mouth, these guys spoke so positively about how engaging VCAL is, it must have made the adults wish they could go back to school.
The process for selecting courses for 2021 starts next term and we look forward to seeing which students apply.
