Principal Team Editorial

End of Term
When addressing the staff this morning I mentioned that we will remember for the rest of our life the events that unfolded during term 2 in 2020. As I write this editorial, Victoria unfortunately is suffering another rise in Covid-19 cases that threatens all of the hard work and progress that we have made over the last 3 months. Again, circumstances are moving at a furious pace, but at this stage there is no indication that remote learning is on the agenda for the start of term 3 or for any point this year. This may change and if it does we will communicate immediately with our school community like we have over the past few months.
The next two weeks are a very deserved break not just for school staff and students but for parents as well (I hope!). I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to have a significant rest from study/work, so that we can return recharged ready to go again in term 3.
I want to particularly thank Ms. Prapas who is finishing with us this week. Ms Prapas has ably filled a number of roles for us in recent years and I would like to take the opportunity to thank her on behalf of the students that she has taught and the colleagues that she has worked closely with.
Moreover, Mr Anderson is retiring today after close to 20 years serving within education and approximately 16 years at Wantirna College. James has developed positive relationships with many of our students in that time and I know they will be sad to see him go. Likewise, the teachers in the Science faculty who have worked closely with James, have benefited from his positive mindset and passionate approach. On behalf of the College community I would like to wish James Anderson all the best in retirement.
Ms Dight will also be taking leave for semester 2 and I would like to wish her well for what will be a well-earned break.
We are still awaiting further specific information from the DET in relation to events, camps and excursions in semester 2. We have continued to plan for these keys events to happen however we will not be making final decisions until we can be assured that they can occur with the DET guidelines and safely. Year 9 camps and city experience, Formals, Valedictory Dinners, Awards Nights, Concerts and Productions are planned and we hope to be able to confirm their occurrence in the near future.
Have a great two week break and I look forward to everyone’s return in semester 2.
