Planning for 2023
At this time each year I create an opportunity for parents to email me about any concerns they have about their child’s class placement for the following year. Parents may have concerns about their child’s social, emotional, or educational needs that they would like to be taken into consideration by school leadership as we form the class groups. I have allocated a four-week period concluding on Friday, 18 November. Requests and correspondence from earlier years was shredded at the end of the process. Therefore, parents with concerns to share must write to me each year. Please email me on glenn.butler@education.vic.gov.au
Twilight Carnival
The Twilight Carnival is coming soon. Set aside Friday evening 11 November to enjoy, community foods, craft markets, rides and food from a wide of food trucks. Look for the details about ride tickets, free event entry and great food in this newsletter. A very big thank you to Ray White Glen Waverley for their support with signage and leaflet distribution.
Student Free Days
There will be two Student Free Days in Term 4 2022. The first will be a Curriculum Day to be held on Friday 4 November when all staff members will be involved in planning for 2023. During the day the staff will also focus on the development of a Professional Learning Culture. Later the staff will turn their attention to teaching of mathematics through games and play. This session will be facilitated by James Russo, a leading thinker in this field.
The second Student Free Day will be held on Thursday 17 November. On this day all teachers will be involved in assessment and reporting.
Solar Panels
This week a solar panel installation team have been working at Mount View. School Council, in association with the Victorian Government and the energy providers, have invested in the upgrade to our solar panel electricity generation system. A 30 Kw system is being installed on the north facing roof of both parts of Building B – The 1969 building which accommodates Prep and some Year 1 classes and the STEAM Hub. This should provide significant savings in our power bills over many years.
Victorian Election
The State Election will be held on Saturday 26 November. Once again, we will be holding a sausage sizzle as a fundraising activity on that day. We will need a team of parents to volunteer to fill the roster for the event. Further information will be provided closer over the next few weeks.
Kindergarten to Prep Transition
Today was the first day of the Kindergarten to Prep Transition for the 2023 intake. Three groups attended for one-hour sessions which centred on classroom-based activities. This first experience of primary school has been an exciting and successful day for all these new students. It was also the first opportunity for our team on 2023 Prep teachers to work together with the students. Two further sessions will be held over the coming weeks.
Hats
All students are required to bring a school hat to school each day during Term 4. PSW in Springvale Road is the place to shop for all school uniform
Traffic
Use the School Crossing
This image shows the school crossing on Shepherd Road. The road laws indicate that this is only a crossing when the flags are displayed.
This image shows a school crossing at another Victorian school. The road laws recognise that this is a crossing because the flags are displayed. The crossing supervisor will manage the flow of pedestrians across the school crossing as well as the flow of traffic along the road.
You must not stop on the crossing when the crossing supervisor is holding the Orange Stop sign. The crossing supervisor will blow a whistle to allow the pedestrians to cross the road.
All cars must stay behind the wide, white line until the crossing supervisor has left the road and is standing on the nature strip.
