Geography
Late in Term 3, as part of their unit, Changing Places, Year 9 Geography students explored a real-life case study of urban development in our own local area. After a presentation to the cohort by Wagga City Council, classes ventured out to Collingullie - one of nine villages flagged for expansion by the Council in order to meet demands of expected population growth of the city. Students conducted fieldwork by taking photos of existing infrastructure and facilities and assessing the conditions of each site. They then generated ideas for how each site could be improved and came up with an urban design plan for each location.
Commerce
In Commerce Year 10 students have been studying a unit called Towards Independence where they learn about the issues that they will face in the future. Recently students worked in pairs to prepare a meal for 4 on a budget of $25. Students planned their menu, shopped at Woolworths Kooringal and finally prepared their meals. We had some delicious successes and some nausea-inducing failures but a good time was had by all!
Stage 6
Year 11 have commenced the Year 12 courses in Modern History, Legal Studies, Geography, Society and Culture and Business Studies. Teachers are encouraging students to develop and maintain consistent revision routines to ensure their success in next year's HSC.
Year 12 Geography Dubbo Zoo Excursion
As part of our unit on work on “People and Economic Activity”, the Year 12 Geography class are looking at Tourism, with Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo as their enterprise study. The Taronga Western Plains Zoo has a fantastic education centre and fieldwork incorporates lessons at the centre directly addressing the HSC syllabus outcomes. We were looking forward to visiting the zoo this term however due to flooding and road closures we have postponed our fieldwork to Term 1 next year. What a Geography lesson!
